I have a bit of a dilemma here.

My parents and I would both like seperate computers, me for gaming, them for word processing/spreadsheets, etc. However they don't want to get another internet connection.

To solve this problem we're thinking about getting a wireless internet router, however, i am concerned about my ping on different games.

Does anyone know how much slower the internet runs when split and run through a wireless router?

Is it enough to screw up my ping majorly?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

What kills your ping isn't a router, but the other person using the Internet through it. Basically, if your parents don't use bandwidth-heavy applications, your ping won't be too badly affected. If - on the other hand - they are downloading fifteen different files at once while also uploading some, your ping will go down - majorly.

If your worried about the wireless hurting your ping, just hardwire your computer nad make theirs the wireless one. Most wifi routers come with a built in 4 port switch and your net connection is most likely going to be next a computer anyways...Plus youll probably save a few bucks that way too...
