i just had to type up this little mini-review.
i was never a fan of wireless technology, but thanks to linksys, im now *more* fond of it than i was before.
last week i bought a Linksys BEFW11S4 4 Port Wireless Switch/Router for a mere $90CAD. As a router, this device performed quite well, i was actually surprised with the ammount of features and ease-of-use for the configuration utility. I especially liked the MAC Address Clone feature, which masked its MAC address with one specified. I liked this feature most because my ISP will only provide service to registered MAC addresses, and this saved me over an hour of waiting on the phone for technical support.

here you see my router, sorry its abit blurry. another plus is its not ugly like some. it features removable antennae, and a fully configurable wireless spectrum with WEP Encryption (as well as the ability to disable the wireless functionality), and a whole bunch of other features.

this morning i picked up the Linksys WCF-11 Wireless CompactFlash Card.

this card is small, and is compatible with any PDA with WinCE3.0 or higher, equipped with a TypeI CF Slot. This device is compatible with 2.4GHz standard 802.11b and SDDD. I was surprised when i used this device because it has advertised that it works in an environment without walls, and i thought that would be a problem because i would like to chat on MSN and read email away from my computer at home. I was astounded when the signal strength only dropped to 86% (at lowest) when i left my room (3rd floor, location of router), and went all the way down to the basement, which i may add is partially underground, with a cement foundation, radios do not work in the one part of the basement, but this did.
I then went further, crossing my backyard and standing in the backlane, where the signal strength was 94%, as i walked down the lane it spiked downwards, and about 40meters from my house the strength was 12%, and this was a slow connection, but the connection was still there. So in haste i walked back to the house went to the front yard and started to walk up the culdesac. at the top of the culdesac signal strength was 24%. this was amazing i was on my friends driveway with my wireless internet action browsing the bT forums:

i hope this review is useful for some of you people and i can wait to test out the wireless PCI adapters next month for my computer and my parents' computer.
does anyone think i should add any more relevant information or have any questions? what do you think of my review

I have that switch, I don't use it anymore, except when I need a wired switch, because the wireless port just upped and DIED without any auditory or visual warning whatsoever. I was not a happy camper that day.

That should read "wireless part". All wireless functionality on the wireless router vanished into the thin air that the wireless airwaves once occupied.
