Apparently you need expensive controller cards to connect up laptop displays to normal pcs (they cost in the range of £150+ depending on models I think)

surely, you can jsut connect the the wires from the lead which comes from the screen to a vga pin layout, with the rest of the wires used to control the power?

i've seen somone use a laptop screen for there main pc, but i cant find the link.

If you have a VGA-in port, then crack it open and see how integrated the controller is with the mainboard.

You'll also have to power the backlight.

Yeah, a lot of people confuse Charlie Cat's work for a laptop display. It was a touchscreen monitor he got on ebay, I think. A nice piece of work and no mistake. ;)

If you choose to actually track down a compatible controller, you'll probably start at around £60. Do you have any serial numbers to start with?

believe me mate... more trouble than it's worth... it's EXTREMLY expensive... and from my knowledge

in a stardard system it goes:

Digital (gfx card) -> Analogue (VGA cable) -> Digital (Inside monitor)

but in a lappy it goes:

Digital (gfx) -> Digital (Inside monitor)

so try and find a cheepish normal tft...

Similar problem. Controllers on lappies are designed with a specific panel in mind. Which means only a (relatively) narrow range will be compatible.
