When I had wisdom teeth problems, a topical anesthetic (orajel) worked temporary wonders.

I think I was quite lucky with my wisdom teeth... I have removed all four of them (there aren't any more, are there? :worried: ), and it was relatively painless. I removed them in pairs, doing the left ones first, then the right ones a month after.
I got alot of lidocain and stuff in my mouth before they yanked them out of there, and it didn't hurt a bit. Just a bit weird hearing crunching noises inside my head... The teeth were huge (they had three interlocking roots!), and growing perpendicular to the rest of the teeth.
I got alot of Pinex Forte (which is basically paracetamol and codeine, I guess) with me home, but they are still sitting in the cupboard, as I didn't need them :)
I actually took one after each extraction, but mostly to be sure that it wouldn't hurt at night. I couldn't open my mouth fully, but I ate normal food just a few hours after removing the teeth.
I was a bit concerned when I removed the last two wisdom teeth, as the dentist was a huge guy who looked like Mr. T from the A-team. He pulled out the teeth in minutes! :D

Oh yea, this thread. I went down the emergency dentist on friday after seeing my doctor on weds for some strong painkillers :D and the dentist took some xrays and said my wisdom teeth are fine and it was my jaw muscle spasming :eeek: He said it sometimes happens in people around my age and it will go away in a month or so. Dont you just hate it when they say that there's nothing they can do, yet, it still hurts.

yes, but atleast you have some sort of comfort that it will go away and you don't need any procedures. For me i wasn't so lucky. My wisdom teeth would have never came through just festered below the gum line :( as a result all 3, yes i only had 3) had to be surgically removed, not fun. though the stiches in my mouth were fun to play with when i got really bored. I was lucky and didn;t need codene just ibprofuen. Cheers mate on the somewhat good news. :)

That's true. I do feel somewhat relieved the dentist said the other 2 would errupt fine looking at the xrays. \o/

I'll be honest...i've got three coming through and there's hardly anything that i would call real pain.....

My dentist said if it gets unbearable, get the hottest salty water you can bear in your mouth for as long as you can. He said that'd relieve the pain. But as I said, no real pain there ;)

yup, and if you use a tea bag (caffineated) it can help to slow the bleedign, if bleeding occurs. :)

Me too :D . My wisdom teeth fitted perfect in my jaw but I can't open my mouth enough to properly clean them :sigh: . So they were removed as a precaution.

I had about 3 instances of terrible tooth aches (twice left side, once right side) randomly spaced apart. When I next went to the dentist, he told me I had a "pocket" by the bottom left one. So he recommended removal of the tooth and he said the top is best taken out at the same time. If I took one out and not the other, he said that the other tooth would reach out to compensate for the absence, and it would eventually have to be removed anyways.

In other words, two of my wisdom teeth were removed as a precaution, but I haven't had any debilitating toothaches since (knock on wood), so it worked.

I also used teabags for the bleeding, but I dislike tea very much so that was unpleasant. After several hours of changing gauge and trying teabags, I gave up and let the sucker bleed. It was stitched up so it only kinda oozed. It oozed a little less for about another day or so.

Oh, and another comment: if the dentists says don't each any potato chips of any kind (pretzels included), LISTEN!!!

One of my wisdom teeth is growing/has grown* forwards into the tooth in front of it. It doesn't really hurt though.

*When do they stop growing? I'm 26 now.

I had 7 teeth out (I had them extra-it really hurt) when I was sixteen - and now all my wisdom teeth came through the gaps. I'm one lucky mofo not to go through the pain you guys have been having!!

    Good Luck

PS- I come do some dentisty for you :dremel: LOL

MMMmmm I had 4 teeth out when I was 11 or so, perhaps that's the reason I had all 4 wisdom teeth come through very painlessly before I was 20 :)

i surely hope your not calling me a ***** as i had NO CHOICE but to get them surgicall removed. Also getting wisdom teeth removed/pulled is only the tip of ice berg for me as far as dental srugery goes. When you've had 3 root canals (all on the same tooth) and peridontic surgery on your gum and jaw bone then tell me. Until then i surely hope your calling me that.
