Do you mean when you hit the shutdown button, it goes back to your desktop like nothing happened or it reboots?

yea that use to happen to me...
but from what i figure i think the hard drive falls "asleep"
so when i need to shutdown now i go open up windows explorer and play a movie file or mp3 then close windows media player then shutdown.
not technically correct way to solve or remedy a problem :duh: but hey it works for me, hope it works for you :thumb:

    ctrl+alt+del
    task manager
    processes

    End Process...
    End Process...
    End Process...
    End Process...
    End Process...
    End Process...
    ect ect...

    ctrl+alt+del again
    shut down

If that works, repeat again but with just a few processes. Keep doing that until you limit it to a certain process...

    'least that's my thinking...

My sisters computer does it if it has been left idle for more than 2hrs during the day, but I've setup her machine to make windows do its thing and shut down when you hit the power button, which always works even when clicking `turn off` dosen't
