Update Time! Been working on the trim for the bottom of the case this morning. Also finally got the front door hinged. This is the bottom of the case before the final piece of trim is screwed on. Sorry for the blurry pic.... Front of the case with all the trim completed. Another shot of the front with completed trim. A shot showing off the newly hinged front door. A close up of the hinges for the front door.
Excellent work, I really like how it looks now the trim is on. Can't wait to see it once its all oiled/polished. Keep up the great work
Well, the project is nearing completion, about all that is left to do is to oil it. I put the magnet for the front door on today and devised a mechanism to keep the side door closed. This is the stuff that will be used to paint it. It looks great, as you can see in the pictures below when I tried it on some scraps. This is the magnet that holds the front door closed, andif the pic is confusing, thats the right side of the front of the case on the inside. This is the piece of metal on the door that holds onto the magnet. In this pic, you can see the top view of the mechanism that holds the side door closed. This is a small hole in the side door that the piece of metal goes into to hold the door shut. This is just the piece of metal poking through the frame, with the door open...
Nice wood working skillz Can wait to see what the finish looks like. Make sure you get some good lighting to ahow off the detail
Update! Oiled the case twice, a third coat will go on in a few more days, until then, enjoy these pics...
I have only one word: WONDERFUL!!! Hope you'll put it on an old style desk with a themed monitor/keyboard/mouse!!! Great work.
Exquisite! I also like how you have matched the grain up on the door, looks very professional. Excellent work
superb! you've done a great job on that. are you planning on buffing it up or is there another plan? I hope to see the carved monitor case next, I think you can already buy wooden keyboards and mice (or at least you could)
been a while since an update... always something that prevents me from doing any work on it. anyways, been working on the wiring. Since I want the inner case to be removable, all of the stuff connected to the actual wood case has to be able to be detached. Thus, a hole was drilled into the bottom of the case to allow the wires to go through and for the connectors to be reached. If you dont understand, I hope you will when you see the pics. All the switches and LEDs are in place (except the HDD activity LED and the power LED) All the wires and stuff on the inside all soldered and ready.... ...to be covered by a board to keep them in place. hopefully I will get the enitre case done early during christmas break.
Man that just screams out pure craftsmanship there, awesome job- best wooden case I have ever seen bar none!!! Are you a carpenter by chance because that is some excellent woodworking skills there.
man does that look amazing.... i love how it gives that antique feel.... instead of the brand name wood cases that are completely chieftech shaped.... while this almost has a grandfother clock look to it... i also like how you used one piece of wood for the front so the grain matches up.... makes it look a lot better.... excellent job ive been watching this case for awhile and been waiting for an update... cant wait to see it finished in its glory...
