Modding wooden pc + safety

    Looking at making a case up to hole a silly amount of hdds, is it safe to mix wood and pc parts?

    I do not see why it would hurt any thing I am building a case made of wood and have seen at least 2 more where they used wood to house a computer and other parts on this site.

    Fair enough, just wanted to check really, now need to work out how to shoe horn 12 drives, plus psu, mobo, raid cards all in a nice neat compact box :)

    theres loads of wood cases, just look at the project logs on here (5 wood is a good one) but all over the internet you will find them

    I got 24 HDDs in my server case and its 18"x18"x10" ish. wood shouldnt cause a problem though.

    guessing 18"x18"x10" ish :p
    sorry couldn't resist. They've got one with 48 HDDs here in a rack. massive thing.

    Well, (and i'll try to stop this going off topci here, worklog is in my sig) its a theoretical 24TB :) but currently it only has 4TB in the case (when its built, its not right now) and thats of about 8TB local storage in my house :)

    The same thing everyone uses space for, backups :) of... important things :)

    Do you have any throughts on what it'll look like Nikumba?

    Wood is a rather decent thermal insulator meaning you will need airflow to deal with the heat. But how much you need to worry is a matter of debate thanks to the Google report. But looking at your serverama project, it looks like you'll be fine.

    a wood case will be fine

    it won't just magical set on fire, it would take alot of heat (even more than a computer can produce)

    All this talk of wood cases and safety, and not one mention of the deadliest danger of all. That's right, slivers. Not only will they get under your fingernails and hurt like the very devil, but give one the slightest opportunity and it will erase your data, kick your dog, and sleep with your sister. Or maybe those last two were the other way around, I can never remember.

    Metal slivers bother me more, having to dig them out is less fun, too.
