I work in a small local shop selling and repairing computers. The girl who is in the shop with me knows very little about computers, other than what she's picked up from working here. She is constantly banging on about AMD being faster than Intel and cheaper blah blah blah. What really pisses me off is, she tells customers that a 3.2GHz AMD Athlon II X2 250 is faster than an i3-530 or whatever. I keep telling her per clock cycle the i3 is faster and will do more operations per clock cycle. She thinks clock speed is everything. it's so ANNOYING!!!! Sorry about that lol I have nothing against AMD at all, just that her advice isn't right about it and it drives me absolutely bonkers since I must have told her a gazillion times.
Couldn't hurt though LOL But I know a old boy just like that talks bol*ocks most of the time I just agree with him makes life so much easier lol
She should not be working there, or at the very least she should not be giving advice to customers...
Normally I would just agree to get an easy life, but she's telling customer's utter tripe which of course sways their decisions based on what we advise. Much like her telling a customer that Athlon II quad cores were basically just as good as Core 2 Quads yet cheaper because she didn't understand the architecture differences... Wish we had a kitchen for her to get back to lol Normally I field all the technical queries (if you can call some of them that lol) which means she's left to talk about printers and stuff which I know bugger all about (apart from it makes pretty pictures on paper ) But we sometimes get busy which leaves her to deal with technical stuff as well. I sometimes try and talk to my customer and hers at the same time just so they get the right info.
Oh The only thing that justfies her working here are that she does know quite a bit about easy things like external storage, printers etc.......Oh and her family owns the business lol There are 6 of us, I'm the only one who isn't a part of the family lol
^ Well there you go. Hate family owned business's. Show her tomshardware's cpu charts, and let that be that tbh.
Come to think of it, most of the family are like it. Her brother, who does know quite a bit about computers, told a customer that offloading Adobe Photoshop partially to GPU wouldn't speed things up, then gave him an ATI 5570 so it definitely wouldn't help.
Tell her for any serious questions to call someone who actually knows something instead of making assumptions and misleading customers.
Know a few people like this. Had arguments about the 7Mhz Amiga being way faster than the 66mhz pc at the time. Just cba to keep banging on about why it was faster, with tasks being passed on to the custom chips, if the cpu didnt wanna process them and TRUE multitasking unlike the pcs task switching etc etc. Pics.
Why do you care? Personally I'd just explain it to her as best and as politely as I could and then leave her to make her own mistakes. Recomending an Athlon II is hardly going to damage the business so if you just leave her be then at worst that's what's going to happen and at best she'll learn a bit more and start making more informed decisions.
Well, if that fails, you could just leave her to it. Customers who have to ask store staff for component advice would probably be perfectly happy with an AMD anyways.
