    Hi Guys,
My girlfriend and I are leaving the land of the hopping steak to London early next year for a working holiday. I would like some suggestions where I should be looking to get work in the tech / sales sector. Do you have any stand out experiences where I could look for work?

I have a lot of experience in Australia in electrical sales, mostly in computers and video games. I have store management experience, and have had great sales training also. I could easily adapt to a range of roles from PR, to sales to management to coaching.

I was thinking about applying around at the likes of Sony in Chelsea, or perhaps Curry's (which i heard is like our Bing Lee electrical)

Where could i get good pay? do some places have better commission structures than others?

    I appreciate the tips

No experience working there, but there are a lot of tech shops around Tottenham Court Road, chains and private, so that might be a good place to start.

If talking about Currys/Dixons/PC World/Comet which I believe all come under the DSG group umbrella, you will not get commission. Just a bog standard minimum wage. Also be advised to get a job at the above, you're best suited pretending to know nothing about anything, at least on paper and at interview - you'll be more likely to get offered a job.

If you look at a small private store, you're more likely to get what you're looking for, and you won't have to be afraid about being knowledgeable and having previous experience.

How long would this working holiday be?

All said and done though, my personal opinion is that; if that's the sector you're looking to join while planning to move here, with the greatest of respect sir, I recommend you think again - it's just not worth it.

EDIT: Reading back through, I feel a little harsh.

Before advising you like that I should have asked:

1: Are you coming with significant savings, or were you hoping to just 'get by' by working?
2: Are you aware of the costs London life brings? I'm freshly graduated, and making exceptional good money for my age - but I was still shocked today when a meagre Subway (the deli/sandwich place) lunch cost me £7.50 for a sandwich, and a drink... I seriously thought it was cheaper...
    3. Are you aware of how morbidly obese and lazy bottom-end tech-store managers generally are over here? - Entering an application for a job might take weeks; just to find out they denied you for X reason.
    4. Are you aware of the rules and regulations regarding working here in correlation to your nationality/place of origin/visa type? (also, are you aware of the unspoken rules?)
    5. Where are you staying/hoping on staying? Living in London isn't cheap and travel can also be rather costly...

and other money related questions... other than that, it's all good bro.

Best buy would be a good bet! They actually pride themselves on having people in store that know something about tech!

This is exactly what I meant by unspoken rules - There's a large trend with particular communities here, and I'm not saying rightly or wrongly - they are perfectly entitled to, hiring similar individuals only This, erm, practice... is particularly prominent in the retail sector over here.

There are no Best Buys currently open in London afaik. (Except Croydon, but that doesn't count)

Even yoyo had DDR2-800 2GB sticks at £60 which you could easily get at £40 when I went in a few years back.

All of this depends on how long you have to offer employers. They're not going to be interested in handing management over to you for a fortnight.

Also - Mankz is right. Avoid TCR like the plague - the shops are owned and staffed by a subcontinental mafia who will try every trick in the book to unnecessarily upsell their customers and overprice their stock.
