    How do you go about earthing the components to make sure no charge is left in it before doing any alterations.Had a bad experience with a fly killer that had been switched off for 4 hours.

    Sometimes I'll unplug the PSU and then turn on the computer. That seems to do a pretty good job at discharging it. Or you can just pull out the circuit board and short all the large capacitors.

    the best thing to do IMO is to unplug the power cable but turn on all the power switches. This should drain all the charge in the caps after a few hours 4 or 5 just to be safe this is the method I use and have never had any accidents.
