I'm building a skeleton to my next case mod(se picture). It will be made out of approx 1" thick square plexi rods (or??). I was wondering, when working with this, is there any precautions or anything, maybe the plexi will melt if the saw gets to hot? Can you please give me some advice on working with plexie. And how will you join the plexi togehter ?? With epoxy glue or? I also need to drill some holes for the screws to hold the sides of the case. Also I need to make some sort of plate to hold the motherboard, is it possible to drill such small holes for the spacers ?
Ok, I'm not the big man on this, but I'll share what I've learned. First off, YES. Plexi, as most (all?) acrylics melt if it gets too hot. I don't know what you are planning to cut it with, but go slow, and don't use anything with "big teeth". If you use a dremel - although I seriously doubt it as you say the rods are 1" thick - Go _slow_. A dremel's function is to cut by speed. Also, If you don't have any special drillbits for plastic or acrylics, use HSS (High Speed Steel) at low speeds, but don't let it "jam". If you're drilling large holes, start with a small bit, and gradually enlarge the hole. This way you are less likely to chip the plexi. Some say you can take a HSS bit in the drill, and run it against a concrete wall to flatten it - and doing this makes it a better bit for drilling plexi. This I would get a solid confirmation on from some of the "higher up's" before trying, though. AFAIK, you can drill small holes yes. But if threads on the screws get too small/shallow they won't hold that good in a soft material. I see you're from Denmark. Now, here in Norway this stuff is a b*tch to get hold of, but if you find Weld-On #4, this is the stuff you REALLY want to use when "welding" plexi. It's thin as water, so applying it with a syringe is quite advicable. Do not spill excess weld-on, on the rest of the plexi, just the joint. Act fast. This stuff will, if applied correcly - fuse the two plexi rods, and "melt" them together - making the joint approximately as hard as if it was one continous piece. These are my words of advice. If I were you, I'd take some time to look through the forums for more info - you can never know enough Happy modding!
