http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,16270670-13762,00.html Focus of this thread: Could you give up using the computer? I could quite easily stop using the computer/internet so long as I had something else to occupy my time with. Weekends are a prime example. Socialising obviously comes first but isn't practical in the week, hence spending time on the Internet. TV rarely has anything interesting on and I can only read so many books.
i could give up using computers, but id be sacked from my job, which would be a bad thing dont use my home pc much these days though, the thought has even crossed my mind that i may leave upgrading it for a while, and its been 14 months since the alst one as well!
well i could prob give up PCs but i dont realy want to as its a fantastic and cheap way for me to communicate with my friends and more importantly, my family. Giving up computer gaming, now that somthing im not sure i could do indefinatly but i can go for a few days without it.
Could if I had at least on of the following: Sexy Woman!!!1111!11oneoneonehundred!!1, Mac, Console, Pocket PC/Palm or an MP3 player full of [legit ] mp3s...
Yes, I could stop using the internet, as long as I had other things to do. But it's very boring in North Dakota. Gawd I wish I had an ATV.
Completely, no. For a period of time, no problem. I rarely use the computer on the weekend or if I'm on vacataion from work unless I'm bidding or selling on Ebay...
I gave up computer games a long time ago and replaced it with watching forum posters talking to each other. I can give up computers and the internet, as long as I could find a replacement for finding information. And, I do not know what this "library" is you are thinking.
Without the net, dont use my pc much at all, ie, moved into the new house, pc wasnt turned on til the net arrived. Couldnt give up use of a pc though, as Mr Tad said, would get sacked. Plus, spend a fair amount of time on/using/tinkering with them, so would have nothing to do (housemates work weekends, or are occupied with other things)
What needs to happen is to move away from the misguided assumption that computers and access to the Internet are 'hobbies' or 'addictions'. They are firmly grounded productivity, communications and socialising tools which people indirectly abuse no worse than anything else. I could no more easily give up my computer and Internet access than I could give up my Telephone, TV, Microwave, Socialising or Driving.
i could give up TV if i had internet (helli pretty much have only watch motorsport on TV now), but not the other way around
I doubt you'd spend days at a time endlessly on the internet, or die from exhaustion after 50 hours of starcraft?
i bet there are riots on the inside when the nerds start to argue over who is the most leet and if you make too much noise the nurses burst in and start bashing you with modems until you stop moving
I did give up the internet for a year once and my pc for 6 weeks before I went back to them. If I didn't have my computer and internet I'd be very bored. TV on the other hand is something i can live without easily.
