What I am really annoyed about rock/metal these days is that there are so few bands which are actually good. Metal isn't dying from the lack of fans, it is dying from the lack of bands, there is not one band that I like which is relatively new. No one seems to be as good as Iron Maiden, The Who, Queen, AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, Def Leppard, Dio, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Quiet Riot and Black Sabbath. The only decent bands which are new are Tenacious D and Dream Evil. Problem is with those bands Dream Evil no one has heard of and Tenacious D don't produce music very often. The other bands make 1 or 2 good songs and that's it, they don't produce amazing albums like there predecessors. This what music used to be like...
Really? i do agree those bands are good but i mean you can't say any single modern metal band is good? I say this because 99% of people i ask that question to are the same people that just like it because its classic metal and they are so popular nobody dissagrees Don't get me wrong as i said all fantastic bands but i find it hard to believe they are the only good ones
These songs/albums should ease you in to more modern tastes, but even most of these are 10 years old 65 days of static, kind of post rock. Try '65 doesn't understand' A perfect Circle 'The Hollow' 'the outsider' 'judith' Incubus, The album 'Science' is amazing Pantera, Start with the 'Cowboys from hell' album and go in chronological order from there. Some of their stuff too me a few listens to really get to love but it's well worth it. Tool 'Anema' 'Stinkfist' System of a Down (you'll probably like the less intense songs more, Ariels, Toxicity, Pitchshifter, The Mars Volta, Rob Zombie (earlier stuff), Pearl Jam 'Ten' I presume if you like GnR then you have Slash's solo stuff. Both Snakepit albums were the best for me. Smashing Pumpkins 'Siamese Dream' There's quite a wide variety of stuff there, you should find a few things to your taste.
The last few Avenged Sevenfold albums have been surprisingly good. If you like Iron Maiden, check out Iced Earth. They're still putting albums out, another due out next year I believe but the high point was probably with Barlow on vocals during the 90's. I finally just listed to the video in the OP. christ that was painful to listen to.
They are pretty bad... but... I mean thats all screamy metal isnt it, that was just a bit wimpy. Rebecca Black is evil, and her heart is black like her name. Even batman stays away.
I would agree avenged sevenfold has pretty good albums nightmare and self titled try search on youtube for Live at the LBC its probebly there best perfomance and is much better than listening to studio albums To be clear i was'nt attacking you there just saying as the last time i asked someone the same thing they named iron maiden but could'nt name a song of theres...
Tho I know what you mean, you have to take into account this are all bands that came in a time when heavy metal was the deal (like hip hop this days) so they were the focus of attention for everything (like hip hop this days) and everyone just wanted to jump on them (like hip hop this days). there are many many many good metal bands this days, it just that they are no longer the focus of attention
Agree with the above. I'm finding new metal bands I enjoy by the day it seems, so by no means is all modern music terrible, just most of it. Though I still hold that all the best music was produced during the 80's... Here are a few bands that I absolutely love and cannot get enough of, despite only learning of their existence within the last six months: Eluveitie, Demon Hunter, Tanzwut, Ensiferum, Folk Stone, Schelmish. All of them have their own charm and are quite unique within the realm of metal/rock, particularly Eluveitie in that most of their songs are in Gaulish (an extinct language) and performed with more traditional instruments. Most of these were stumbled upon whilst listening to Kink's metal channel. This seriously makes me want to take all my A/V gear and throw it into a tip. It's so bad I'm physically sick after watching it (and I think it gave me cancer).
Now do you think they decided they weren't a serious band before or after they started releasing music?
if i could have i would have negrepped everyone that used the word metal to describe that godawful "song"
Lawl, 00:31 in the original video for the most hilariously terrible emo look ever. I did a lot of stupid things in my teen years, but I'm proud to say I never grew a fringe over my eyes until I couldn't see. *****. As for screamy/growly metal, that stuff all sounds the same to me anyway. I can tell that this is worse than average, but I've heard the stuff that's supposed to be good and it just does nothing. Doesn't sound bad to me - I just honestly don't get it. It's like listening to music from an alien planet, made for ears that work in different ways to mine. Also, for the sake of balance and general sanity, here's a song that isn't at all growly or screamy but is very good OK GO are like the antidote to all things emo and pretentious and melodramatic, just pure silly fun.
