If this is best suited to the Audio forum, then just move it.

I was after some advice, i currently have a SB Audigy Platinum and was wondering if it was worth me upgrading to a newer card, i saw the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music quite cheap, but i'm wondering if i'll actually notice any difference?

I play mainly WoW and listen to MP3s (at the same time mostly). I only have a 2 speaker setup, the sound card goes via normal headphone type connector into an old amp then into 2 old Wharfdale speakers.

Suppose my main question would be, is it worth upgrading the sound card when the rest of the kit i use isn't top notch?

If you're not going to change your listening habits, I'd say it's not worth it. You probably wouldn't notice a great deal of difference IMO. Id stick with what you have.

You may have problems with Vista with your current card, so whether you're going to upgrade your OS may be a factor.

I've been told that the "X-Fi Music" (what the hell's with this whole "Xtreme Fidelity" shenanigan?) is a whole lot of nothing, technically; that it's little improvement over what onboard has to offer.
