To get slightly back towards the topic, do you happen to have the serial number of the bike? That will be a huge aid to getting it back.

I have no desire to get into an argument. I was merely pointing out that in society I believe we should have the right to express our opinions freely without repercussions from the law. How other people react to those statements is up to them.

May I point out that since Bit Tech forum rules are a seperate entity to the law you may choose to report him if you think he is acting inappropriately.

I will leave the decision to the mods on whether his statements were appropriate or not. Having some close friends who come from traveller backgrounds, I do find them very offensive. It shows a complete ignorance to the traveller community as a whole, and also shows him to be nothing better than a bigot.

If he acts like one, I will call him one. Simple as, and cool as.

sorry stuartpb.. people are entitled to their opinion. If you don't like it then you have two choices.

    A. Post a rebuttal
    B. stop reading and cry in another thread (crying optional)

The same applies to him though. If he feels like calling someone a bigot he may do so.

EDIT: Anyway, all this needs to be in either NSFW or Serious. Can we get back on topic?

As I said, I will leave it to the mods to decide whether it was right or not. I did also post a rebuttal, to which he hasn't replied as yet. I will repeat it for those who were too lazy to read it the first time:

It's a slight tangent, but this is a fairly prominent social issue so here's my empirical evidence for what it's worth.

Number of times I've suffered violence, misfortune or theft at the hands of travelling people:
    0

Number of times I've suffered violence, misfortune or theft at the hands of non-mobile, resident British citizens:
    7

So when something's stolen, I don't assume it's "pikies" or "gypos", because that'd make me an idiot.

Not to troll or as it used to be called, play devils advocate. I would put it to you that you have had contact with "British Citizens" a hell of a lot more than "Travelling People". But I would agree that I have never personally had any issues with travellers. Though two friends of mine have had some minor issues, but probably not as much as with the local chavs.

But on topic, I would call the police.

Lets face it, the pikey's dont get there notorious hatred from being nice to people do they? Ive yet to hear one good thing about the ones that used to live near me.

Or one good thing from other friends who live in different areas of the country.

Ive worked in public retail and every time the pikey's were in they were always trying to steal non stop. And they would come inside in big groups and generally piss everyone off.

There not all nightmares obviously - so no im not generalising them as a whole. But the general attitude to them from the public is largley disliked. Add one plus one to find out why.

I've had fairly dodgy experiences with travellers in my own place of work, they come in large groups and cause nothing but hassle. As in, use fake bank notes (happened 3 or 4 times) or claim they paid with a 20 instead of a 10. This happened pretty recently and the guy swore blind he'd used a 20, despite the guy on the till knowing fine rightly he hadn't. The till in question was eventually taken up and checked and when it was found to be correct three of his mates jumped on the bandwagon said it was actually them who'd been given wrong change. We ignored them.

Other than that, even if they manage to be polite enough to get into a movie (I work in a cinema) all they do is make noise and mess in the screens, til we have to chuck them out anyway. Some combination of the above happens EVERY time they come in.

Don't get me wrong, non-travellers do all of these things as well, but its now become guaranteed behaviour from travellers, as opposed to the odd few non.

I would definitely call the police, they won't really be able to do much about it. But at least it will ensure the statistics are up to date.

I have to a agree with everyone else and go with the it was probably travelers, I've had issues with them in the past. Moved onto a field near to where my girlfriend lived, and the crime rate went up. They left, and the crime rate went down.

The bad element of the travelers appear to show no disregard for the law. The store in which my mate works, got robbed the other night. He assumed it was the travelers from down the road. He was right, they feel such immunity that they left the goods in plain view of the road!

From my expirience police are hopeless there was a group of bone idle benefit living chavs with an older lady one of there mums up my road who love to get drunk and cause trouble finally somebody called the police 1 hour later he came out with a biscuit in his hands saying "Thank you for the coffee"

He new the people inside and did'nt do a thing about it

This has happened multiple times with the same people and different police officers not all the time they new them...

But maybe your police are better and your not going to lose anything calling them

oh come on. Its the internet, :D, theres been much worse things on here, :D

I spent my entire primary school years with travellers.

    My main problems are,

they don't pay for services, local camp managed to get water installed and rubbish collection for nothing.
They move in on places where they shouldn't be.

Just down the road from my village, they have moved into a field, and over an easter weekend, had tons of hardcore trucked in, setup a new camp, all illegally.

The camp just next to this has had many police raids which have turned up numerous stolen cars and other stolen items, hell, one time, a police car was stolen in the raid.

I know my views are very extreme, my sister hates it, :D, but that's just my view.

This is my main problem with 'Travellers', a couple of years ago about a dozen families rolled into a shopping centre car park that i was a security guard at and started bbq'ing there food and letting there kids run riot. I approached them all as soon as I was aware they were on site and politely asked them to leave, I was told in no uncertain terms to F off. So I took one of the older males aside and said to him that if they were not all off site within an hour I would phone the police and inform them that I was threatened with and saw a firearm. I advised them that this had worked before and that social services were brought in to care for the kids on the previous incident. Within twenty minutes every last one of them were gone. A lot of these gypos really take the piss out the no trespass law in scotland.

You do all realise that exactly the same things you guys are saying here are what the Afro Caribbeans and Indians/Pakistanis were having said about them in the 50's and 60's? But because it's pikeys, gypos or whatever derogatory term you choose to use, then you find this acceptable. It was bigotted then and it's bigotted now.

@Cerberus90, why have you chosen to ignore my previous question? To help you, here it is again:

Now if you cannot give an answer to this question, it clearly demonstrates that your statements were indeed bigotted and ill informed.

Also, most of the scallies I know are not from traveller stock, they are little mid suburbia chavs. Spoiled brats, with parents who don't care what their kids are up to. How about we think about what our own section of the community does before we go labelling another one?

The difference between a pikey and an indian is that the former lives in camp sites and will steal. Indians live in regular home. Not the same.

    Well, that was productive...

Spec: report the theft. As the song says: If you keep doing nothing, nothing will come to you.

    Otherwise, mind the doors...
