Hey guys, Iv got the conroe E6700 2.67gh version, it cost me a fair bit and proved really amazing and reliable - no problems what so ever. Having read the bit-tech article on the best CPU and seeing the Q6600 get the golden award, im considering upgrading to it, just to keep up with the times. Iv just got my 8800GTS 512mb card its its real nice and want a good cpu to help it along; im thinking of selling the E6700 cpu i have and upgrading but is it worth it to do it? is it a big leap? how is it for gaming? is it good on stock settings if i werent overclocking? (unlikely i will be) Just need some opinions on the matter! Thx guys! p.s Also im posting a pricecheck/interest check on the current E6700 2.67 chip i have, if interested or able to give an opinion, post here
Basically the penyrns are due to be released in January 2008. They are for the most part a conroe, but the transistors are 45nm instead of the conroes 65nm. The CPU also has some new SEE instructions which makes it faster for multimedia encoding and such. The key point thou is the smaller transistors. It won best innovation on the bit tech website. Anyway it basically uses less power and is about 5-10% faster overall, but much better in programs using the new instructions.
