I've been looking for some PC tech forums and haven't had much luck. SO here I am! Anyway I thought some of you would find this story interesting.

I had a Geforce 4600 about a year ago. I ordered an LCD screen, (Viewsonic 17"). I get it home, plug it in, it works for about ah hour and boom. Screen goes blank. I reboot. Nothing. I plug it into teh VGA (not the DVI) and it works fine. Interesting... the DVI port blew out. I RMA'ed it. I send the unit back and got a new one. I plug the new one in and everything is OK for a day. I'm playing UT 2004 and BOOM! Instantly I'm at 640 by 480 with 16 colors. So I reboot. Nothing. The DVI port is blown. Again. So Obviously its the video card. I RMA that monitor again and get a new one. No problems. I don't plug it in... I get a new card (5600) and all is well.

Now on Tuesday I was installing Windows XP on my number three machine - that I'll be giving to my parents... I have a Hitachi 17" LCD on that one. I get the nvidia drivers installed and the screen is all jibberish... It says its too high of a resolution. So I start over and reinstall the drivers - same thing. I pull one of the other 5600's from my pther PC and everythign is fine. I'm just sort of surprised that it would work fine in safe mode but not with the proper drivers. Also, why would it work find in Windows 2000 with those same drivers and suddenly blow with XP? Either way the problem is solved and I have a new card on order. :thumb:
