Going to be building a system on an Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600 GO, Vista 64 bit. Would you go for this RAM, or is there anything better around the same price? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=766626 It's on today only for £68.14.
So isn't the CAS 4 worth the extra £9? Being an OC noob I'm not really up on the technicalities of timing latencies. Any disadvantages with using the CAS 4?
if you are going to be doing some serious overclocking then CAS 4 is definitely worth it in my book, it allows you to keep tight timings with a heavy overclock which obviously equates to better performance
Thanks. I need to spend some time reading up on the finer points of overclocking. What online sources would anyone recommend I look at?
don't buy those. buy my RAM sticks, so i can go buy those for myself /end random yes, go for those. i'd gone for it if i were building a system now.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=782925 For that board would the above be worth the extra 20 quid? Is there enough gain going from the 800 to 1066 to justify 20 quid
Hadn't seen the sticky, cheers for that. Re google, I agree, feel like I'm married to it sometimes. Problem is I get overwhelmed as there's so much to wade through, also never know which info to trust. I'm so lazy ......So was hoping someone might point me in the right direction. Sticky it is.
with google (we learnt this for writing reports when we need decent facts for our A levels) click on advanced search to the right of the toolbar (I thought it had all changed then) then click the '+' for "Date, Useage rights etc. etc." from that screen you can filter out a lot of crap. I usually like to stick to stuff that has only been published within the last few months (especially when searching for reviews of new hardware) you can filter out crap websites and if you don't want something that you are sure will crop up you can exclude that word from the results. That should help a bit but other than that, filter out the crap manually.
I wish I could answer that. Maybe someone will come along soon with an answer. I could probably stretch to another 20 bones.
Handy tip, cheers. Now I'm embarased to admit that I'd never used the advanced search before, so much for being married to google. Maybe I've been similarlly missing out in other *cough* departments. Just off to check the wife.
don't forget this list is priceless. green ones are the ones you want, red ones are better, but are not made anymore. true, but a good 800Mhz RAM is very important. eg, my 800Mhz C4 cannot hit 900Mhz no matter what timing thus i can't hit 4Ghz with my quad core.
Is the vendor that important? How would I find the rev number on these? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=766626
Ballistix 1GBx2 PC2-6400C4 cost me £45 last august, and clocks over 1GHz with tight timings. of course if i let the timings out so it more like C5 stuff then i gain extra Mhz as i can then push it harder. might pick up the new 4GB kit from cruical those funny looking RED ballistixs, prefer the yellow but if its got speed and volume then it will do!
Yea we've got some 8500 C5 DHX that won't do C3 at 800 either - most disappointing considering an older revision did this, but is £20 really worth it for a black heatsink? The Ramlist is quite old now too
Sorry I'm in New Zealand and there is about a 30 quid difference over here between the kits. CAS 4 is very much worth the extra 9 pounds.
