I'm looking to buy my next new build, looking at either Dual SLI or Tri SLI.
Worth waiting for the GTX 780/770 or AMD HD8970?

Needs to run at least 5760x1080 resolution.

I need everything except OS and Monitors. (3x Full HD Projectors will be used later this year, once the loft is converted.)

Budget £2500. Need Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers. :)

I look forward to your replies. :)

    Cheers,

    Simon.

If the 780 is as good as the leaks then yes, it is worth waiting for, especially as some sources (can't remember off the top of my head) say it could retail in a month.

Well, if you do want to wait, you are looking at a June/July release for Haswell (though knowing you, could just go Socket 2011).

We don't have any firm details about the new GPUs really, the 7xxx series was released in Dec 2011, so has been on the market around 13 months. I have the feeling it'll be a few more before we see the 8xxx series.

Geforce wise, you'll be waiting longer, as the 6xx didn't arrive until March 2012

It all depends on if you can wait that long. If not (which I'm almost certain is the case) then build now. :thumb:

    Yeah, I did see a March 1st release date for GTX 780 and April 1st for HD8970 here;

New GPUs may arrive at Q3 this year, aswell as Haswell.

I'd wait until there's the first benchmarks and hard info on the new parts to see if they're worth it, and maybe - if they turn out not to have much more oopmh - grab some cheaper current parts when the retailers want to get rid of their stocks to make room for the new ones.

You need a camera too - we expect lots of photos!

If that screenie is accurate, I'd wait for the nvidia 700 series. It is a little surprising to see nvidia beat AMD to a launch - the last few have shown AMD with several months head start. I suppose it adds credence to the rumours about nvidia curtailing the 600 series launch though.

I think someone knows me too well... :D

If that last pic I just posted is anything to go by, then it's worth the wait. But if it's not until Q3/Q4 then I may as well go for it with current hardware...:)

True, I might just grab something cheap off the forum for the mean time, and wait the release of Intel, Nvida, AMd's next Gen. :)

Pic's as always, you know me and my cheesecaking epeen...:D

I second this, when the 780 is released the 690 will be obsolete and you could grab 2 of them for an sli cheaply.

There is of course Geforce 'Titan' to consider - if the rumours are true it promises to offer around 70% of a 690 on a single card. How about two of them?

    I heard about this too.

I'll take 3 just to future proof it for a couple of months. :)

I guess it depends how much you want a computer. You buy such high end stuff that it doesnt depreciate quite as much as normal people stuff, so I would have thought you could build a stepping stone rig that you could then shift when something more appealing happens. Or you could even buy second hand just to tide you over a while.

You shouldn't listen to my advice though, I spend all my money on keyboards, and everyone knows you can only type on one at a time.

    n00b. ;)

Regardless of whether you wait for the main components, you can buy some of the peripherals and use them with whatever setup you have at the moment (if you have one at all).

If you currently have nothing, I wouldn't wait since while you can get something better, you would have nothing until then. If you have something that you're ok with using for a bit then sure wait, but as I said, get the peripherals now so you can enjoy them :)

Unless your budget is firm you could just start buying the other parts now based on whats available / on sale. Things like the case, power supply, peripherals don't get outdated very quickly so if there are any good daily deals through scan you could just pick them up early and let them sit in their boxes until you have the rest of the system. It seems time isn't the issue so you can always just shop around for the other parts.

I thought the titan was just the codename for the 780

Thanks for the replies peeps. I'm going to get a cheap build from the marketplace here, and upgrade when the next gen Intel/Nvidia/AMD hits the market. (Just need something to use until then.) :)

Isn't Titan supposed to be Maxwell? too.
