This. I find them a bit more special, there's some serious work gone into a decent analog watch and you can see that when you can see the cogs and weights working together. Still pretty sure there's some witchcraft going on.
On another scale, here is my next buy : A naked comtoise clock movement with its guts, weight and pendulum visible. The original one looks like that : I really do prefear without the cabinet.
Yep. The top one does it for me. I've been wanting a decent mechanical mantel clock for ages, but unfortunately the one I want is just waaaaayyyyy too expensive: http://comitti.com/S5666B_The_Grasshopper_in_Black_Nickel_Speciality_Clock I've lusted after a clock with a grasshopper movement ever since I saw John Harrison's Sea Chronometers - the escapement is mesmerising, and they're things of beauty.
Haven't got my camera handy, mine's been battered a bit and got caught in a magnetic field so the chrono hands are a bit off from where they're meant to be. Heres an image stolen from the interwebs
My dads Omega De Ville his parents bought him for his 21st birthday back in '71. My mum, sister and I had it repaired for his 60th last year. I can't find another picture of it on the web.
glad I found this thread...just went the rounds with the wifey on a tag grand carrera...decided best to wait until the 10 year anniversary for that...decided on a sportura for now...the snl015. will get a proper pic up when i get it tonight. have always loved watches, but budget restricted to nice looking eco-drives and an old omega that i can't find

Post Your Watches After looking through some of the old threads and some of the recent puchases, I thought it may be a good idea to get this thread going again. Basically, just tell us about the watches you own, and maybe some you've had in the past or want to own! First is my wrist watch. A Skagen 803XLTRB. It's a beautiful minimalist watch and it's slim as hell! Bought it while I was over in Dublin and so that set me back about £100 after having tax and VAT deducted. It's a brilliant piece for that sort of money! It's a mostly titanium and carbon fibre build and is solid as a rock. It's never skipped a beat. The thin Japanese quartz movement has been solid and reliable. My very recent purchase was a first fob watch. I've been looking to own one for a while and finally managed to snipe an Ebay bargain. It's a Waltham Traveler with a sterling Aaron Lufkin Dennison case dated around 1904. I was quite lucky to pick this up for the princely sum of £23. It needs some repairs and a damn good service, but I'm having a few people currently looking at it, luckily, quite a few in the local area do still have a good amount of original Waltham parts, so that makes it a bit easier. I also need to look into getting a quality chain for the watch. I can already tell that that is going to cost more than the watch itself. Anyway, it's a gorgeous piece and not bad for its age! Just managed some photos today: I do still need a couple more watches for my "collection". Ever since my old Fossil watch totally bit the dust, I've not had a basic, everyday watch that I'm ok with taking to school. As good as the Skagen is for reliability, it's thin and easily scratched, and not something I want in school. I'm now also looking at an automatic wrist watch, seems like a good plan for my birthday next year. As good of a quartz movement the Skagen has, I would LOVE to get a good automatic. I'm weighing up some pricey options at the moment. The Franck Muller Casablanca and especially the Vegas (that thing is amazing!) have really caught my eye. Alongside that, something elegant like an old Air King or Seamaster would be a nice choice, and something I would truly take pleasure from owning! Kid.

Some pretty looking watches, thinking of getting a nice watch, but not really sure where to look etc. Anyone got any recommendations for a cheap mechanical? Currently got an accurist, away for repair right now, will get some pictures when I get it back (this weekend)
Search online is the best bet. Some high st stores sell them, but your looking at £200+ for a cheap one.
Ebay might be a nice bet if you can leave some extra room for servicing. I can't recommend any particular brand or model, but you'll fine something you like. Nice stuff everyone else! Edit: Actually George, would a vintage Omega of any sort take your interest? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...rksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=omega&_sacat=0 Have a good look, I've set it between £150 and £250. Just be careful and check if the seller gives a full description and such. You will need a good budget for later to have it stripped and serviced well though at some point.
Picked this up last week, after having a seiko kinetic for the past 9 years I couldn't go back to battery, and finding nice watches is getting tough, everything nowadays has chronographs slapped on 'em So everyday wearer for 100 quid should do the job;
Started off with a Sekio Sarb 033 a week ago, very pleased with it, obviously it is not a grand Sekio but its a start, I like the excelent weight, it feels perfect in weight. Size is perfect Strap has fitted perfectly out of the box. It is modest yet clearly clean cut. Automatic. £375 including dutys Also just for ref and to just enjoy sekio a little more here.. GRAND SEIKO SBGT037 GRAND SEIKO SPRING DRIVE SBGA027
That's quite nice longbeard. That's another reason I like the Skagen, there's almost nothing on it. Rainbow:
