For the past couple weeks, I've had someone calling me. They've got the wrong number. I went as far as asking what number they're trying to dial. They're dialing mine, I told them someone gave them the wrong number because that's my number. They're still calling, they have at least 4 times since I verified the number.

Wrong numbers happen. I'm a little more pissed than I might normally be right now. It's 9AM New Years day. This idiot calls and wakes me up. I answer and hear "Hey man, Happy new year. Wake your drunk-ass up." I would much rather have a hang-over. I've been sick with bronchitis and sinusitis and I was finally getting some good sleep so you can understand now why I'm a little annoyed. I've got this douche's number, seriously considering giving some craigslist m4m and 4chan treatment.

    What would you do?

Call up your telecoms provider, tell them you've been receiving nuance calls, hand over the callers telephone number (from caller ID, 1471 if you're in the UK, star69 in the US, etc.)

I had some one that kept ringing me about a clock I had sold them on ebay, I didn't even have an ebay account at this point.

What I assume either had happened is recycled numbers, I had taken out a contract about 2 months earlier, and I assume the scammer seller may have had this number many moons ago, knew it was no longer in use and used it as a contact number. Or he made up a number, or maybe just got it wrong.

I have heard that in the UK (not sure about the US) some providers do charge to block a number. I think most phones can block a number from calling, it just doesn't ring out and you get a notification saying that rang.

I considered calling the provider but I've tried this in the past and they were not helpful. They actually told me there's nothing they can do and refused to block numbers before.

Anyway. I went back to sleep for a while with my phone turned to silent. Wake up to find a missed call from the same number. Plug it in to google and now I've got a name and address. Fail for them.

Does your phone (landline) allow you to do *60? Some companies in the US allow you to block calls selectively by dialling *60 and following the prompts. I think you get a nominal charge for the service, although you might want to look it up before trying.

    Same for me!

I had the same problem last year, some Scottish woman kept phoning and asking for craig. 9 months of telling her she clearly had the wrong number and to stop phoning at 6 in the morning and she still didn't get the message! In the end she woke me up the day of an exam and I was so annoyed I just shouted "He's dead alright?!" and hung up, it seemed to work.

you could save the number and give it a personalised ringtone that doesnt make noise, or make a group with no ringtone or vibration for the number

ring him at some rediculous hour and ask for someone, might take the hint then

or failing that, post him a turd in a box lol with a note saying wrong address or something.

I would call them asking for a random name every time, try and get them at stupid times of day like 3 am and tell them that its dark outside and owls keep making noises.
