Hi, new to this site, and water cooling in general. Bought my first stuff to watercool the other day and found a cheap Hydor pump. But when it arrived i discovered it has a european plug on it! Just wondered how i would go about using it over here ? Is it worth sending it back ? Can i just use a uk converter ?

    Any help would be great!

Yup, just hack the current plug off and wire a 3 pin one to it. The pump doesn't have an earth so just wire it like this. :)

What are the specs on the pump? If it says 230 or 240 volts that it will be fine.

    EDIT:

If you do that and the voltage is not 240v, wouldn't the whole thing blow up?

Nope, if the pump is an Asetek it is supplied with a 2 pin plug to go with the Asetek relay kit.

I added a male molex to mine as it is powered by a relay inside the PSU.

Yup, it's as safe as houses :D

The relay works flawlessly, no problems at all.

all the molex connectors I've seen specs for were rated for more than 240V. I see nothing wrong with using it for that, as long as he is careful with handling it and not connecting normal devices to that plug.

It's not really that safe though is it. They're designed for low voltage use, which is why they are not fingerproof...

For a wire-wire fitting, safer way is to use the 2 or 3 round-pin plug & line socket like wot we use for lawn-mowers, etc. Everybody sells them (except Maplin  ).

A molex will carry mains OK but it's like a bare nylon screw-connector block, it's possible to touch something live with a bit of wire. Dangerous if some stranger thinks molex=12V max.
