Coming round quite a tight slip road on to a bit of dual carriageway at about 40 - realised I was a bit wider than I meant to be and tried to brake - wheels locked up and I skidded sideways almost straightaway.

Going sideways, knackered both the wheels on the curb. Had to take this one off to drive it home:

Hit a sign with the back right of the car as I was going sideways:

That knocked me round so I was going straight and went headfirst into another sign which stopped the car:

Not much damage but enough to write it off. Had to take the front right wheel off and put the spare on as it was jammed into the brake caliper and I wouldn't have been able to drive it home otherwise (1/2 mile).

Hit my head on the window as it was going sideways but aside from a headache I feel fine.

Far more frustrated at having done it and the fact that I'll lose my NCB for a £50 road sign. (TPFT)

At the moment I've only got £40 to my name so it looks like I'll be without a car for a while... :(

I don't seem to have a choice about claiming. The police woman had to take my insurance details for a report, and said that the council will go straight to the insurance company for fixing the signs with me unable to intervene and offer to pay myself.

Can you not drive it like that? It's a bit smashed up, but surely it's road-safe?

Sounds like you where unlucky to hit some black ice or something, but lucky to walk away... Also unlucky police got involved, it'll get reported as an accident and you don't get any choice in losing your no claims or sorting it out yourself with council/etc :worried:

Your luck sounds like mine when i put my 205 through a hedge @ 70mph, i was lucky it didn't flip, but unlucky i hit the only milestone for 5 miles either way smack in the middle of the engine (i wasn't aiming for it honest!) :sigh:

Roads are nasty at the moment (i live around hills and unsalted roads!) so everyone be careful! :nono:

If you havn't written off a car, your having no fun.

That is what happens when a 17yr old who's been driving for 2weeks turns right into a flow of traffic at a NO RIGHT TURN junction...

I was passenger at the time, lucky there was no one in the back seats as a bumper went straight through into the car!

Ouch, that sucks dude. Real shame about the car.

At least you're not badly hurt, cars can be replaced, people can't.
