    driving like an absolute nobber.

there were witnesses too, so i might be looking at points or a ban.

deserve it to be honest. luckily no one was hurt. will teach me to drive more carefully in future.

anyone else wrote off their first car after less than two months?

What the hell did you do xen0?

I've had a few close calls in my time, from being a berk, but never really come that close to even a scratch.
Loads of my friends have had accidents in <2 months of passing.

One of my friends was mad - he managed to have 4 accidents in 2 months in the same car, with the last one writing it off completely. Only 1 of them was his fault, the rest was pure luck. (Oily road, unavoidable rock etc.).

came round a corner spinning my wheels (which was actually accidental - wet road, dropped it into 2nd, too much right foot, but the witnesses saw this), accelerated too fast over the top of a bridge (forgetting the fact that the road was slippery and after going over the top of a bridge you lose a lot of grip anyway due to weight transfer), braked in order to avoid hitting a car in front of me, skidded over to the other side of the road, and hit another car pretty much head on...

Ouch, nasty - which bridge was it?

I have to say, it sounds like a bit of bad luck, accompanied with a bit of throttle-happy driving. Shame really...

Neither of you are hurt I hope, cause a head on sounds nasty.

no one was hurt, but both cars are a mess, and i may very well be in trouble with the police, as my car had an illegal tyre on too.

basically, i was driving like a dick, and i deserve everything i get. if i walk away with no points then i'll be a very happy person.

in a little town in Lancashire in the north west (don't want to be too specific) :p was on my way to work yesterday morning when it happened and decided to take a shortcut i don't usually take, and i was going a bit fast.

worse thing is it could have been a pedestrian/bike. luckily it wasn't. it's kind of hit home about how responsible you have to be with a car now.

car is/was an Escort 1.3. The front on the driver's side is all smashed up and the wheel on that side seems to point in the opposite direction to the other side - had the wheel all the way over to the right to try and move it off the road and the front right wheel was still pointing towards the left. it won't move at all, and when i let the clutch out all the way i just heard a clicking sound, it's as though the driveshaft is broken. so i think it's a write-off.

3yrs and no writeoff yet. Reversed into a barrier in the second year but that only cost £50 for a new bumper from a scrappy.

My mate is on his fourth car now as people keep crashing into him! :hehe:

How can you crash a 1.3 Escrot due to having to much power?
I've done 40,000 miles now and I haven't damaged any car yet. I drive like a tool occasionally though!

That'll teach you, hopfully you'll be more careful next time buddy?

Well at least you recognise it and hopefully will drive nicely in future :) Hope you dont get in too much **** over it though, cause it would be a shame to loose your lisence after such a short time.

Do they do the "6 points for 2 years after passing" things with car licenses, or is it only bike licenses?

It's 2 years is it? Crap, I thought it was 12 months :| Gotta start slowing down on the motorway.

Tib, dont worry it's not till after you pass you really start to learn.

I did drive like a nutjob in my renault 19 for 8months after passing my test, but when i got a car i loved (16v Corrado) i slowed right up and drove the speed limit. Now i have a 200bhp VR6 which i love to pieces i drive even better, very rarely use any of the power unless at trackdays or sundays when im feeling sporty.

My theory on power is that, leaving the driver's tendancies aside, it's a bit unsafe to shove a learner in a slow car with absolutely no power/torque.
For example, when you pass your test, most people have no idea about practical driving, or even about how to handle a car at its limits. You run out and buy an old, underpowered, cheap car as soon as you pass, to make sure you can afford to insure it and run it within reason.
So let's say you jump on the motorway, as practically everyone does, try and put your foot down and discover that, unlike your learner car (probably), this car has no power or torque, and you struggle getting up to a safe speed to join.

So fast-forward to six months down the line, and you've been having to race your car to get to decent speeds and fold in with the other, more powerful traffic that constantly surrounds you. (The easiest way to avoid having an accident is to stick with what everyone else is doing, not driving completely differently when people might not pay attention).
Now that doesn't excuse driving like a lunatic all the time, but it does explain having to drive at a speed which is close to your car's limits most of the time.

Once we all migrate to a more powerful car, there's no need to use full-throttle and push a car to its limits...
