I've used LeechFTP for years now and i'm bored of it. Also i get the feeling there's probably better software out there so recommend me something better. Also i hate how it times out so damn fast.

All i ask is that its free and wont timeout every 300seconds like leech does.

SmartFTP is quite a good program that I use a lot. If you don't want it to time out, it can be programmed to send a command automatically in the preferences. I have just set it to execute "LIST -aL" every hundred seconds or so.

    :)

I use SmartFTP as well. It's a pretty simple interface, it makes it easy to upload files very quickly.

    Another vote for FileZilla.

I just wish they'd hurry up that Linux port they were talking about, because the default graphical FTP app in Ubuntu - gFTP - is garbage, and FTP-via-file-manager has a couple of details lacking.

FileZilla is one of only a few things I miss from Windows, actually...

Cheers for the suggestions guys and gals
Could i just ask why you use 2 programs that essentially do the same thing? What does one do that the other doesn't?

I have more than 1 machine, and I test a lot of software so just ended up sticking to those 2 programs on the machines they're on. I mainly use FileZilla for the local ftp & SmartFTP is on the machines that grab stuff from outside. No reason for it, it just ended up that way. If I ever go and rebuild all the machines I'll probably just use FileZilla, there's nothing wrong with SmartFTP though, it has some nice features.

    WSFTP LE here.

It's free and does a reasonable job. The only thing that does bug me about it is if I want to send loads of little files, it can take ages. I might try out some of the other suggestions on this thread to see if they are any better.

Sometimes I just use IE if I want to send a couple of files accross. Very easy to do. ftp://[username]:[password]@ftpserver.com then just drag and drop from windows :)

I use Terrapin cos it's very easy to use for transferring a few files up to the websites (and besides I paid a modest sum for it in a Freeserve deal years ago and want my money's-worth :eyebrow: ) but I'm currently trying CuteFTP and others because Terrapin doesn't show how much webspace I've filled. I'll probably end up with Terrapin and A N Other on the box. :D

I use FileZilla, because SmartFTP kept messing me about, but then I found it it was my hosting that was screwing around, and just didn't go back :)
