I just bought some Supa Tablets for oxygenating my daughters fish tank (with her hideous Pleck!), reading the instructions.... 98% Potassium Chlorate!!! WTF???!!! And to think I was going to give them to a 6 year old to put in the fish tank!
Is there actually any kind of warning on the packaging? I mean, try and imagine a situation like yours, where the buyer doesn't know what Potassium Chlorate actually is...("Hey! Why's my hand on fire?!")
Hazards Identification Emergency Overview -------------------------- DANGER! STRONG OXIDIZER. CONTACT WITH OTHER MATERIAL MAY CAUSE FIRE. HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED. EXPOSURE MAY CAUSE METHEMOGLOBINEMIA, LIVER OR KIDNEY DAMAGE. CAUSES IRRITATION TO SKIN, EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. Nasty stuff.
Wow potassium chlorate is some very evil stuff... I think it was used in many grenades an mines during WWII (correct me if I'm wrong) You could do some nasty stuff with it, but maybe the fact that it is only 98% may spoile the fun...
i can just see the fish tank doing this http://www.angelo.edu/faculty/kboudrea/demos/instant_fire/InstantFire2_08.jpg lol
Potassium chlorate is a strong oxidising agent... it'll oxygenate the fish tank just fine, but does it have any sort of clear warning label on it at all? As you said, that could be very dangerous in the wrong hands; it's not exactly inert
Could someone please post the formula? Our names of chemicals are a bit different, so I cant figure out what is it... Thanks
No wasn't labelled well at all. No explosive sign, no oxidizing sign, just a VERY small 98% Potassium Chlorate (and that didnt even have the Chemical Formulae)
