Good eve Bit-Tech forumites, Quite simply this is my problem: On friday I decided I'd stick my X-Fi XtremeGamer into my gaming rig (it's been in my draw for a month or so since I changed motherboards - i've been using on-board sound during this time). Anyways, I installed the drivers etc, and found that the sound was horrifically distorted - like the bass was blowing the speakers or something. I assumed the card was buggared (after trying some custom drivers), and chucked it back in the draw. Today I decided to test it in my media rig - and it seems fine. So, it's not the card that's broken - what else could it be? I'm going to try removing my gaming-rigs overclock tomorrow to see if that's causing issues (doubt that'd be the problem - but worth a shot). Anyone got any other ideas? rig as below: MSI P55 GD65 Mobo i5 760 @ 4Ghz 4GB Crucial XMS3 Crucial C300 128GB 1TB Samsung F1 750W PSU (coolermaster I think) GTX580 Sound is outputted to a hi-fi unit via 3.5mm to 2xphono cable. Cheers, James
This probably isn't the problem, but... did you disable the on-board sound when you installed the X-fi?
Have you disabled onboard sound updated correct drivers (for the correct OS) made sure the card is pushed in flat all the jacks are connected properly checked the sound setting in windows that the onboard sound drivers are gone checked the sound setting in windows that the outputs match the speaker setup checked that there are no conflicts in device manager god how long has it been since i saw one of these go my copys Vista & 7. Thats about it for soundcards i mean there not the most complicated peices of kit but sure can be irritateing if not working correctly (im on usb headset these days one to many complaints about noise so your doing better than me even if you dont get it to work) GL
