ok when i buy the X-Fi from creative, how do i disable my onboard sound? is there any jumpers or something? i dont want to buy it then find out im still using my on board sound lol
Be sure that when you do buy it (highly discouraged by myself but I won't get into that ), you don't hook your speakers up to the onboard connectors. That way you ensure you aren't using the onboard sound, disabled or not...
ah rite thanks very much guys ill go fish out the manual now, yer i will plug them into the card lol edit just looked through the manual and cant find it in the bios section, it just tells you were the audio connectors are on the back of the board, do i need to move jumpers?
Just use the connectors on the X-FI not the mobo. Should work fine - you can run both soundcards without an issue if you wanted too....
i assume you are running windows xp. just plug in the sound card, make sure the drivers are loaded properly, then go into the control panel in windows and in "sounds and audio devices" you will be able to disable onboard and enable the sound card.
It should be in "Integrated Peripherals" in the BIOS if it is an Award BIOS. Look for AC97 Audio or something similar. Just have a look through it until you find something sound related and turn it off, if unsure post it here and someone will answer.
yer thanks guys its in the bios all i have to do is disable it oh and wait for the xfi to be realesed lol
