Started this case a few weeks ago, its for a modding compition on wcuk forum. Heres the rules pasted in from the forum;
WCUK Case Modding Competiton

Starting date: Now
Closing Date: Sunday 13th July, 7:00PM GMT (This ok?)
Max Budget: £100 (not inc. cost of case)
Voting criteria: Aesthetics only, NOT HARDWARE
Prize: Lian Li PC-7 - Colour to be announced closer to closing date

How to Enter
Simply make a build log of your mod and post it on our forums in this section.
viewforum.php?f=40

The Victim (Case being modded)
Many of you will already be familiar with the cases, the AL700 and the AL800. Not bad for under £10 each.
http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cat...words=tower&osCsid=0o1v20gii52gpptnkjod1pc3o4

In a nutshelll, we're offering small, lightweight alumniuim cases at our cost price to you guys, in order for you to go nuts and mod the hell out of them and have some fun with a competiton.

Judgeing will be based our purely on the asthetics of the case, doesn't matter what hardware is inside it... after all, it's a modding competition.

pasting in the build log, but i will update on here regulary, enjoy :)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ive finally got round to starting the case, havn't done much yet just stripped down and deciding what im gona do with it. Im not speding much on the case i have loads of spare bits around from other cases that im using, and finish off with a nice paint job 8-o) pics;

stripped down, most the stuff ive taken off, wont be going back on
[IMG]

Spare stuff im using
[IMG]

 looks like fan wont fit in the roof, maybe if i sand the edges down [-( , or fit behind the m/b tray?

Front panel is gona have 120mm turbine hole thing, and the areas in red are gona be flush, bodyfiller. Should have that bit done today, post more pics later :D

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After some 'freestyle' modding (making it up as you go) this is what i ended up with this afternoon, ready for bodyfiller/sandin tomoz, pics, enjoy;

Hole marked out ready for dremal
[IMG]

Couldnt find my dremal anywhere, f**k knows what i done with it, had to buy a new one   #-o
[IMG]

Metal needed to blank out the holes
[IMG]

Whala! :p
[IMG]

Perfect fit
[IMG]

Spraying this side black to match the case frame, should make the metal plates less noticeable.

Front view, tomoz gona be filled and primered, pics to follow

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Finish the messy work, sandin/fillin the front panel, pics;

Taking shape
[IMG]

Hole marked out for fan duct
[IMG]

Test fit
[IMG]

Thats it for today, most pics later in the week

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Been off work 2day, so time to work on the case. Decided to cut the window, ive never done this before, but i think it came out ok

Made a brack for the fan behind the blowhole
[IMG]

With tyhe fan in place...

Front view
[IMG]

Panel marked up ready for cutting
[IMG]

Tools i'll be using
[IMG]

Corners drilled
[IMG]

Not bad for first go! now alot of fileing :|
[IMG]

Final result, not happy with the shape of the corners, going to make them more curved or not bother  what you think?

Closeup of clean edges, took alot longer than i thought it would, worth it in the end, better than rubber trim
[IMG]

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Quick update, primered the front panel, still needs a bit of work yet

Your bondo work looks very nice and I like the window with corners as its.
I think if u make them more rounded they will look bit retro - like the classic look from late 1990s...your call though...;)

thanks for your comments, update from last week

Decided to add another 80mm blowhole to front bezel, to fill the gap above the 120mm blowhole. Its not quite finished, but i cant be bothered to do anymore today, pics;

1 coat of bodyfiller
[IMG]

2 coats
[IMG]

sanded
[IMG]

Thats it for today, updates later in the week
___________________________________________________________

Bought a holesaw kit off ebay for £5, bargin! time to cut the roof, x3 80mm fans. All the stuff iam using is spare/old stuff i dont need anymore. So far ive spent £5 on the holesaw kit :D pics;

Holesaw kit, there is a 76mm holesaw for the 80mm fan included, but not the right size for a 120mm fan (104/124mm i think), oh well cant go wrong for a fiva :p
[IMG][/img]

Top panel masked up/marked out for cuts, this took a and while im not that good with numbers
[IMG]

Pilot holes drilled
[IMG]

76mm holesaw cut
[IMG]

Final result
[IMG]

Test fit
[IMG]

Closeup of cuts, still need a bit more sanding in places. Thats it for now more updates soon

Haha me too, got it at a discount tool shop. They do a bit better if you use a drill that is corded. The case looks great! Have you thought of a color scheme?

for £5 you cant go wrong, it cuts holes? I use a corded drill and it goes through in no time at all leaving a clean cut.
I know the frame will be black, cant decide for the outside, but i know that iam incorpirating some airbrushing

Looks good. I got one of those too. I had to swap out the guide bit because the one in the kit was off center. It smelled like an ashtray too.

heh i have the same holesaw kit. its great for plexi and prolly aluminium but i made the mistake of trying to go through a steel top cover with it.. after 10 mins of running at moderate/slow speed all it did was score the circle and dull the blade =o/
your cuts look great and i like the dual turbine design. great job so far

Update from today, ive been working on the case all day and made some good progress, i think? :p When modding a case everytthing takes 10x what you thimnk it will take, if you want a nice finish  NEways heres a few pics, enjoy

After first coat of primer, showed up some imperfections, so after alot of sanding and a little more body filler...

After a few coats of primer, needs to dry, then sand again then ready to paint! :D
[IMG]

Back of the front panel looks realy untidy, you wont be able to see to when its on the case, not much anyway, im going to paint it black to match the frame
[IMG]

Test fit, using uchannel around the hole to make it look a little neater, again this wont be visible with the panel on, but its the little touches that make a nice case

Test fit, front view
[IMG]

Done some more sanding on side panel, looking realy nice, i think thats done now
[IMG]

Tomorrows plan is to cut some holes in the mb tray for cable managment and exxtra cooling! Pics tomoz
