you could also do something cool: go to the local pet shelter (where you find abandoned animals) and get a small nice looking healthy kitten that has grown enough to feed it self but is still very playful and friendly (you know the type), try to get a cat with the same sex as your cat, maybe the same external appearance... put it in a basket (think overload cuteness) and pay them a visit observe the kids go wild with the cuteness of the kitten ???? profit they now have a healthy kitten that will last far more than your sick cat, congratulations, you made 2 good actions, you saved a kitten from its death and you gave people joy!
Our cats always rip collars off and becomes a waste of time. What can you do if your cat has been gone missing. Not alot as it could be anywhere or most likely dead in most cases. If a cat is ill or dying it will not come home as its first instincs are to hide and stay hidden.
Sorry but the people claiming ownership have no right too. Assuming they did originally purchase the cat ten years ago, they claim to only see it once every couple of years since then despite the fact the op lives close by and sees it every day? It has chosen its owner, it lives there and he cares for it. If they take it again, call the cops you have eight years of vet bills to prove its yours. I've had my cat since he was a kitten and he too requires daily medication for a birth defect so i would not only be gutted if someone else tried to take him i would be extremely worried about his health. Luckily he is chipped.
Get the owners implanted with an rfid chip, when they go back to the cat, accuse the cat of stealing the owners and get their rfid chips checked. I win.
Instant win. Thinking about it, technically I don't own my cat either, I was given it by somebody who kidnapped it. It technically belongs to some sadist who starved it for two weeks until it couldn't walk and his friends had to take it to the vet to be put on drips, whereafter he immediately began starving it and letting his dog attack it again. All in all, I reckon it's mine in every way that counts, but it still makes me angry to think the guy could technically make a claim of ownership on it, even after we nursed it back to health and had it treated, deflea'd, vaccinated and the like. Pet ownership is ****ed up.
The only good advice in the thread. You should have done this 8 years ago to keep the cat from being euthanized at a shelter if caught up in a sweep. Any pet should have an RFID tag and be registered in case it gets lost. Most countries check for an RFID tag when an animal is brought in and again be for being put down.
Just walked to work today and found a new set of posters for a missing cat, strange as I saw this cat near my house on Saturday dangerously close to wear the other cat used to hang about before it got napped. I texted the owner of the sighting, I think I'll keep a close eye on the happenings of this cat, hoping that the previous thief hasn't decided to continue cat napping.
any news?? I agree with everyone about the RFID tagging. That way you can stand up in court and say that it is your cat. Otherwise, I'd just tell the family to keep their hands off YOUR cat, or they can pay all the bills and take him to the vet etc.
I just got a message in my inbox that the owner has found her cat. After I sent the text to her she went to the park behind my house where I saw the cat, she didn't find her but whilst there she had put up lots of missing posters around the park. Later yesterday night she got a call from someone living a few hundred meters away that the cat has been found. She's quite greatfull of all the charity of those who helped. So no cat-napping today just probably got lost on one of the cats adventures though I did recommend getting the cat tagged just in case without causing alarm. Case closed.
Are you not prepared to share the cat between you and the other family? I am sure that is what the moggie would want, twice the grub and plenty of chin rubs for it. You do not need to have any contact with each other just let the friendly feline come and go as it pleases. The cat will be the winner in the end.
I think with all you have done, the cat is yours. If you let the cat out all the time, there is NO way that they just all of the sudden "found" their cat again. They are most likely saying that to appease their children because they lost their cat long ago. My wife bought me a munchkin cat (looks like a regular cat, but has short legs) for $15 from some lady and we started letting it out of the house and it disappeared. I think someone stole her because everyone that has seen her said they wanted her and would buy her from me if I decided to sell her. It just seems odd that she disappears all of the sudden like that when she never leaves our yard. So after a few months, I realized she is gone and not coming back. I started looking for another munchkin and i found out that although they are not a true purebred, they are worth a lot. the cheapest one I found was $700. My wife ended up finding one for $250. I have never paid that much for a cat, but in the end, she is worth it. I think that munchkins are like a really loyal dog. my new munchkin follows me around and always wants my attention.
My first pet was a cat, and our neighbours have pictures of our cat at their homes... They called it the neighbourhood cat. I'm happy that it was never swiped after reading all this. I just don't understand how some people can do things like this without any remorse.
