I have read a lot of posts which complain about X being slow, and throughout those posts the distrobution used, I assume is using X11, because on the XFree86 web-site not many distros are listed as using XFree86. Here is a link on XFree86 webpage listing the distors which use XFree 86: http://www.xfree86.org/distros/

I have heard that Xfree86 is faster than X, but I haven't seen any proof of XFree86 being faster. So I was wondering if anyone here has any idea on which is faster, X, or Xfree?

    it's not X11 vs XFree, it's x.org vs XFree

the main reason people use xorg over xfree is the licencing

x.org is a fork of xfree. I don't think xfree is being maintained anymore so if you're installing a new system there's very little point in keeping xfree, just install xorg instead.
