    Help me pick!

If I could get either at the exact same price (the GT might be $50 less than the XT), which should I go for?

I have no loyalties to either company, and I just go for the best performance for the best price, and in this case, the prices are insignificantly close together.

Any opinions are valued, but it would be great if you had some data to back up your claims.

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the X1900 XT preforms better than the 7900 GT and me being quite fanboy-ish I'd lean to the ATi side, with AA+HDR (can the 7900's do this now?) and better image quality from ATi.

I'd agree with fr4nk, unless getting a decent overclock is what really floats your boat, the X1900XT is the winnar. :)

Either way, they're great cards at great prices. :)

I have a 7900GT right now, which I got when my X1900XT was backordered for weeks. I can still return my 7900GT, but as far as I have tried it, the GT doesn't clock that far, and I don't want to do any voltage mods to it.

If I do decide to keep the 7900GT, I could probably sell the XT at a super low price, and still make a profit.

    More suggestions?

Actually the X1900XT has been more known to get a good overclock into an easy X1900XTX

yup, get the XT you won't be dissapointed, just make sure you have a BEEFY powersupply as it's a power hog. min of a 450w i would recommend 500w.

I myself think it's just basically a big bull.

After going from 5900xt to 7900gt and to a new and much faster system I was amazed by how little gameplay and such were affected.

Sure the benchmark will show you some difference, but it's not that big of a deal.

Like nVidia, use it, if not go to Ati. Not like you'll see amazing difference.

that depends on what else you change when you go to a faster card. if you just keep all your settings the same then i wouldn't argue but when i upgraded from my 6600 gt oc to an X1900XT i saw a huge difference.

    1. i could run smoothly at 1680x1050
    2. HDR+AA
    3. The graphic detail settings can now be maxed out :D

running a 7900gt on a p1 with a 480*640 monitor you wont see any improvement.

but seriously. a 7900gt is a high end card. you need high end everything else to go with it, also you need the latest games aswell. or there is just no point

i agree, which is why i got the x1900xt since my monitor is a 20.1" lcd and my system has an opteron at the heart :D

Currently, my overclocked Sempron 2800+ (S754), and el cheapo DDR3200 512 Kingston RAM is probably a huge, huge bottleneck, but I am able to run my games at top top specs on my 20.1" wide monitor (except FEAR, I have to turn down the AA/Anisotropic a little, and Softshadows is a no).

My X1900XT has YET to ship, after 2-3 weeks already. They had stock for a moment, but I didn't get that shipment - which let me say, is making me increasingly pissed off at ATI, but for the price I'm getting it at, I can't even wait for DX10.

I'm just gathering up the parts to build a Conroe machine.

So far, I seem to be getting that the X1900XT is better.

I just got my 7900GT from newegg today. Havn't installed it yet, as I'm still waiting to buy the last part of my new rig, the E6600. Looks good sitting in the box though.

But DAMN is that heatsink/Fan small. I'm suprised. Doesn't even cover the RAM. And yes, I got the N583-AR revision.

1280x1024 natice LCD. All games on this resolution, oblivion and such on highest settings with HDR. Runs great. And I guess Memory and videocard limits the performance since after playing Oblivion for few hours (with Bittorrent, Everest and Task manager running) the CPU usage was 85-95.

On stock air it should run from 60C up to 75C. BTW from what manufacturer did you buy?

I bought E-VGA. Been using a 6800 from them for a long time now unlocked fully with some slight OC's on it with never a problem. I think I'll be slapping a Zalman VF900 on it for some nice cooling. :thumb:

From what I understand E-VGA is a first party/flagship nVidia manufactuer.

E-VGA is a stellar company, my 7900GTX was from them, and well considering the issue was not something they had complete control over their response was awesome. The only reason i didn't rma my 7900 until i got one that worked was becuase well i am impatient and didn't feel like going through tons of rma's

I would keep the XT. With a BIOS update you have an X1900XTX...and THAT is good :)

comparison here for comparison with a 7900GTX...they are that good :)

Yeah, the X1900Xt can be flashed, ATi cards are also better at single card points at the mo, dual card is SLi. The x1900 oc really easily, image quality is a bit better, but even though the ATi card can do HDR and AA at the same time, games can be modded to achieve this on nVidia cards, and the HDR on ATI cards is crap, it doesn't make a difference, looks like it isn't exsistant.
