With the anouncement of the Doom 3 expansion and Quake 4, RTCW2 on the horizon, I was wondering if there will be any relief from ATI for X800 Pro users, or will I be forced to upgrade to a 6800GT to play those games at decent framerates? My P.O.S. X800 Pro already gets like 15-25 fps in D3 at 1024x768, 2xAA, High settings while the 6800GT would never get below 60. In tight areas without action, my card will go up to 40-50 fps, but still, for $400 i expect more. Most people who don't own an X800 say there is something wrong with my card, but I know thats not the case, for I get 12k+ in 3dmark03 and 5k+ in 3dmark05. I really don't want to have to drop another $400 this generation for a 6800GT, but I may have to because the X800 pro just doesn't cut it as of now. Very few games I've played on the X800 pro give decent framerates, Far Cry giving 20-30 on average at 2xAA, 1024. The exceptions are CS:S and UT2k4 which play pretty well. Everytime somebody brags about their 6800gt i feel sick to my stomach because I wasted so much money on a POS card, when I could have gotten over twice the performance for the same price from the Nvidia card. I know I will NEVER buy another ATI product.

Dude... you must have driver issues (known problem with ati..)

I'll happily take your x800pro off your hands (I'll even trade with you, you can have my 5900XT :p)

what's the rest of your system like? smells like your card is way more powerfull than the system can utilise. 3dmark seems to pretty much ignore the system and give similar results for the same vid card. as in: 2500+ and a X800 gives 4900 marks and a 3800+ and a x800 gives 5200 marks. where you will do WAY better with a 3800+ and the same card in real games than the 2500+. 3d mark is useless. make sure your drivers are up to date. from the most recent benchies ive seen, the ati cards are only a step behind nvidia in D3 perf (ati AI lowers image quality a tiny bit tho). if the drivers dont help and your system IS strong enough to utilise the card then you could sell it on ebay for pretty much retail or over and buy a 6800GT. IMO the 6800GT is a lot nicer card across the board plus theres the PS3.0 stuff. But im bettin' if your system is up to it, you will the the kinda perf you want from that x800.

    My entire specs are:

    Athlon 64 3200+
    Asus K8V Deluxe
    1GB PC3200 Kingston HyperX
    Aspire 500W PSU
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

It really pisses me off that I bought a $400 card and am getting this crap performance. I should sue ATI honestly. I am also not the only one. Why is it that ATI can get away with selling the X800 pro for $400 when even the $250 6600GT is more powerful?

you must have a problems somewhere in your setup, because my FPS hardely ever goes below 30 on Doom 3 on my radeon 9800pro (435gpu, 370ram).
The rest of my specs are:
    P4 2.2B processor overclocked to 2.8
    2 gigs Kingston DDR400
    antec truepower 550 watt
    abit IS7 Mobo.

no, the 6600GT is not more powerful. Doom3 was developed with Nvidia hence the nvidia cards take a lead in fps ;). Take a 6600gt and a X800PRO and put them in HL2 / CS:Source and you'll find the x800pro will be faster ;).

have you got the latest catalysts?

i agree, altho some of what i heard is that nvidia has a slight lead, (like 0.5fps) lead in CS:S its more 2do with game companies takin money off nvidia and ati thus making ut better on there cards

yes that is true. Its about even in HL2 engine games (even though it was developed with ATI) , although an X800 should still be faster then a 6600gt in almost any game.

haha, i get a better frame rate than you at 1280x1024 in doom3.

    it never drops below 30.

    oh yeah, i forgot to add - i have a 9800 pro.

so you must be either doing something wrong, or have borked drivers.

yeah, forgot to mention my setup: 2600+ 1gb mushkin 333 ddr, and a fx 5900. I run high quality 1024x768 and usually sit between 50 and 60 fps with dips in the 40s. so since your system is stronger in every way, you have to have something messed up with drivers or something.

I have already done all the driver swapping and formatting I can do. And yes, I have heard many stories about the 9800 Pro running Doom 3 better than an X800 Pro. I've tried running at 1280x1024 at 4xAA, and I never got above 20fps, most of the time my fps was stuck down in the single digits. I've ruled out that I have a defective card because they are some games where my card does well, and infact exceeds the benchmarks published on sites such as www.tomshardware.com. Plus, my synthetic benchmarks are so high. I think there is a serious design flaw in the X800 Pro. Look at whats happening, not only does Nvidia's 6800GT beat the X800Pro at its own game (Half Life 2), but Nvidia's midrange card, the 6600GT beats the X800 Pro in Doom 3. I wouldn't mind if the X800 Pro only suffered minor defeats at the hands of the 6800GT, but to suffer so overwhelmingly against the similar priced 6800GT and even get beat my the half priced 6600GT is just plain wrong, and a scam in my opinion. I am seriously considering getting a 6800GT and selling the X800 Pro, although I really didn't want to buy two "high-end" cards (X800pro is high end in costs, not in performance) this generation.

i have a P4 3.2ghz, 1gb DDR400 RAM, 200gb ATA133 hard drive and an ATi X800 Pro and it runs every game at max settings, even Doom 3 at 1600x1200 with 8xAA (or does it go to 16?) very smoothly. i havent tested the framerate but i've never seen it stutter, so it must at least be in the 20s.

same goes for all the other games i've played, i've found it to be an excellent card, and its my first ATi one.

so all i can say is there is a problem somewhere....
try a clean install of your PC if possible, format and install Win XP with SP2, latest drivers for everything, Doom 3 with patch, then see how it runs.
also make sure its not overheating or anything

Man, I don't see what my problem could be then. I am using the Omega 4.10 betas. I saw a decrease in performance when I tried the Catalyst 4.10s. I tried running Doom 3 with 8xAA one time and it crashed. How much are you overclocking and what tweaks have you done to the game?

P.S. I'm still using SP1...would an install of SP2 increase performance or decrease it. Keep in mind I have a very slow internet connection and don't want to download SP2 if its not worth trying.

    i wholeheartedly disagree.

    ***

in light of what you've said about reinstalling drivers and formatting and all that. it sounds like you have done everything you can do. maybe your system just doesn't agree with doom 3 for some reason, i dont know. but what i would definately do is sell the thing on ebay and buy a 6800GT, it sounds like it will be a much better card for you. but i would try formatting and reinstalling once more anyway. make sure you have all the latest drivers and updates and make sure you install the drivers in the right order. if after you are sure you have the latest everything and it's all installed properly and there is no change, then go for selling it.

and over 150 on cs:s i have the 4.8 drivers and also i had problems with the 4.10 drivers 3dmark wont even finish with thos drivers. so you sould go get the 4.8 drivers off ati's site like the rest of these guys said its not ur card its ur drivers

What are your settings when you get 60fps...also is that just in tight areas or all throughout the game. I bet I could get 60fps if I played on medium settings, no AA, and turned off shadows. But I really don't want to lower my settings. What is your timedemo score?
