Mad little build I love it.

I just really, really want to avoid fans outside the case if I can.

    On another note though...

Well you know how I said I was going to repin some extensions earlier? Well I got a sneaky little package from IceMods! They did a way better job than I could have and I got a 6+8pin and a 8+8pin still hanging onto the dream a dual GPU card is coming

I also got some Barrow fittings from ModDIY and they went out of their way to source the QDCs for me so a massive thanks to them.

So to add salt to my space issues wound, how the hell am I going to get 2x of these in?

Finally I picked up some EKWB Monarch RAM plates to beef up the memory a bit.

So I had some quiet spare time tonight so decided to do some prep for paint.

When there is only 1x X99 ITX motherboard that exists in the market you don't really have a choice in colour schemes :)

So I removed the 2x heatsinks and wrapped the board so I cant paint the 2x blue dimm slots.

Not really a fan of the "paint the open DIMMS and then just reinsert your ram heaps to clean the pins" approach I just cut out some card.

Wrapped them a couple of times to fatten them a bit and stop any fibers.

    And Bob's your mothers brother!

Hopefully i'll lay down some paint tomorrow night! :)

Well all painted, I also did the heatsinks.

It was really hard, not sure if just because its really fiddley or the paint I was using but it was really hard to get the paint in some areas, im blaming the crowded motherboard though.

Its a far from perfect job but, it will be a damn sight better than bright blue and right now thats good enough.

Ill let it cure overnight before unmasking and taking some photos.

I hope the heatsinks come out looking good!

So here's some photos of the paint, really transformed the look of the motherboard.

Hopefully you can ignore some places that clearly need touchups and the blue coming through from inside the dimm slots, obviously that wont be visable when the slots are populated with mem.

Really happy with how the heatsinks came out :) Though flake is always a bit tricky to photograph...

Well, i've had some dark days.

TBH I almost threw in the towel and go to a CaseLabs Nova or something, this build had defeated me.

    I'm glad to share however,

    WE GOT THERE!

Boom! Look at that straight as an arrow, with ample clearance!

    So how?

    Well,
I cut the entire bottom shroud of of the radiator out, shaved down the frame of the fans and squeezed them in.

Getting down on it you can now see the amount of space there is between the majority of the block and the radiator, obviously the waterblock component is pretty close but it isn't touching.

Super, super happy with this result!

Now time to get the radiator painted up nice again, finish the modified CPU mount and we're on the home stretch!

Looks Great, glad you got it fitted, you have given me a lot to think about with a similar clearance issue (the ek predator is 68mm and my case has room for 65...)

Great work on the radiator indeed :) Can't wait to see what kind of temps you get from this loop.

So time to tackle another niggle.

If you're familiar with the ASRock X99E-ITX you know it doesn't use the standard 2011(2011-3) mounting pattern which is 90x90mm, instead it uses a slim ILM mount usually found in servers, that's 100x75mm.

Because of this I had to modify the standard mounting hardware that came with the Kelvin S24. I thought I could get away with using the AMD mounting hardware which to my eye looks like its drilled for 100mmx70mm, so close, just enough to be a pain in the ass.

Having no issues with cutting up the AMD mounts I cut out the sides of the mount and then just used some aluminium plate across the top. Simple, but we don't need to make it more complicated than it has to be...

It's not pretty at the moment, (and I actually got it so hot while cutting it melted the paint on the stock bracket and imprinted into my plastic table) but a bit of black rattlecan should have it blending in nicely, also I think a decent job for a dremel and hand file.

Pulled out the rattlecan to touch up some of the work i've been doing.

First up was the radiator, unfortunately so much work has knocked the fins around a bit but nothing you'll see when it's all together. I might still throw some paint over the fins yet.

The modified AMD CPU mount got the same treatment.

I also put the EK heatspreaders on the memory, gee they look good...

Waiting 1 delivery and then I should almost be ready to power this thing back up. Fingers crossed it posts...

Oh some glams with the dimms populated :)

    Hi d33g33,

Do you mind sharing the batch of your golden 4790K 5GHZ @ 1.285V Vcore? You didn't post a photo of its packaging showing the white sticker :(

    Thanks.

    Awesome build so far!

Would it be possible to ask how tall the RAM is with the EK heatspreaders on it?

I'm starting to think putting some on my RAM for looks would be cool. :)

I'm sure I have a picture somewhere, but TBH that chip needed about 1.32v in the end for 100% stable. Still damn good though...

About to tear down (again) Ill be sure to quote you in with the height.

(Hopefully) final teardown before it's done?

    Much appreciated!

Edit: Unless you're enjoying these teardowns, of course. :p
