Why do you want DVI for an Xbox 360 so desperately?

Don't know about him, but I was hoping for a DVI or HDMI output so I could plug it into a LCD monitor, doubt I'll be able to afford a HDTV for a while.

However I'm sure there will be some way for us to plug it into a monitor and enjoy HD resolutions.

My reason is a little less practical than NuTech's - sure, it would be great to be able to plug an xbox 360 into a 50" HD screen via a digital connector, but (a) I am in no position to afford an HD screen at the moment, and (b) even if I had one, I doubt I'd be complaining too hard about having to 'settle' for component video.

However, I can't help but feel that MS will be missing a trick if they fail to put a digital connector on the 360 - I mean, it's the zenith of technology in so many ways, yet they aren't fitting what would surely be a very cheap bit of circuitry to drive a digital connector.

Also, if implemented in the xbox 360, digital video connection standards for consumer electronics would get such a boost in their widespread availability that we might see DVI/HDMI filter down to the budget end of technology more quickly, which can never be a bad thing.

EDIT: plus it would be so frickin' cool

You can convert component into DVI i think. Gamecube used to have a digital out on it and that can output component and HDMI from the same connector so they must be "similar" (long shot there).

You just know 90% of people will be happy with composite though

Personally, and for the timebeing, I'd be happy if it comes with a SCART connector that I don't have to pay extra for :D

Well, the Xbox comes with a SCART adapter, rather than cable (or at least mine did).

Mmm composite SCART, just as ********.

I'd be very happy for it to come with teh DVI connector, my projector loses a lot of quality off the AV standard cables.

But with Microsoft saying EVERY game will be HDTV compatible, surely they should give the correct connector

True, but component is compatible with HDTV resolutions - it's just that it's analogue rather than digital. So if component is there, then MS can legitimately say it's HDTV compatible.

if i get an xbox 360 it will most probably be kept by my computer hooked upto my monitor. since i use the DVI connection already, i'll use the D-SUB connection, but yeah, i agree that this console should have DVI, i mean, it's designed to be hooked up to HDTVs right? well pretty much the only HDTV compatible displays in europe right now are plasma and TFT... and everyone knows they all work best with digital connections.
