I have an Xbox 360 prem with 20 GB HDD, I’d like to get the 120 GB elite, is there a way to transfer my account onto the new elite? Etc my saved games score of my Xbox live account. I know there is a Transfer Cable that you can buy, but that means I have get the elite before I sell the other one to transfer. I was hoping to copy the contents of the 20 GB HDD part-exchange that console then buy the elite and reload it with my original HDD content. Hope this makes sense.
I may be wrong here but I think your scores for your live account are stored online so you would just have to recover your tag. As for save games etc, depnding on size could you not copy them to the memory card and then transfer them back to the new HDD. Just brain storming here.
My lads 360 came with a memory card so I was thinking you'd have one anyway but obviously not. Yeh microsoft are a pain in the ass not letting usb sticks work with the 360, forcing you to buy their own products.
You can use the guide here to backup your drive to the PC. You can then restore the backup to the new 120Gb drive. You might want to do some more research on this though.
cheers, sounds complicated and dont wanna take it apart and mess it up. Was hoping of a way to copy to pc through the ethernet cable...I know sounds easy dont it!
No way of doing it over the network, that i know of. Acronis True image can create a hard drive image over a network, but not sure if it'll work on the 360. Also I'm not sure if you'd be able to restore the image to a new 120Gb drive as you might change some data that the console requires in order for it to tell that it's a genuine MS 120Gb (rather then the 20gb) drive.
well i wanted to part exchange it in the shop you see. so thats why wonder if can copy saved games n score points onto sumething first.
You will need a large memory card if your trading in your old xbox for your new one. How big are your games saves? Mem card sizes are 64mb 256mb 512mb Dont know if they do 1GB cards yet. Donwload content can be redownloaded onto your new 360 when you recovered your gammer tag on your new one. Look on ebay for a cheap one or expect to pay loads instore.
I've got an xecuter xbox hdd - usb converter here somewhere. £10 and it's yours Found it. It has Sata connection too.
There is an official transfer cable which you can buy Renchi.com sells it and i'm sure other places too.
Hmm, i didn't know that also transfers to a PC. Xbox.com says otherwise. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/datamigration.htm
2 get ur gamerscore.all u have to do is go onto the new xbox and click RETRIEVE XBOX GAMERTAG or something sim, u enter ur email addy and pass and it dl's ur gamertag. game saves u could buy a memory card and put them on there ---didnt read all the posts---
Most stores will give the exact same price for trade-ins as they would for just taking the old console in and selling it to them. If you explain you wish to transfer your files over, I'm sure they'd be flexible.
When I did mine, Game let me come back later once I had transferred the data. With your gamertag, I believe save games for most of the arcade games are stored on there, that's why it becomes so big after a while, so if you go down the memory card route the only save games you have to worry about are for some of your main games.
doesn't work for all Arcade games (or at least most of the ones I've bought). I think your only choices are to either: Get an X-Sata device (costs about £30) which sits between your 360 & HDD and transfer your data to PC and then back to your new elite. Memory Card (which to be honest I don't think will work - not all games allow their saves to be transfered, plus it won't be big enough for all your save games) Wait to sell your old 360 until after you've got the elite and get the Transfer cable (for free) from Microsoft - this is your best bet. or sell your old 360 without the HDD note - Any content you've purchased for your 360 can be re-downloaded without charge.
To do it via the official MS route you have to have both HDDs plugged into the (newer) console with the official transfer cable.
