Hi all, I'm looking to buy one of the above in the next few weeks (as I've just started my new job) . I'm torn between the two at the moment: Xbox 360 Elite Forza 3 Edition: http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4...-Extra-Black-Wireless-Controller/Product.html - £239 PS3 Slim 250Gb Uncharted 2 Bundle: http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStati...-HDD-+-Uncharted-2-Among-Thieves/Product.html - £269 I regularly game on the PC, so I've taken that into my thoughts below: XBOX 360 + Forza 3, GTA 4 episodic content + Better online play + Slightly cheaper + Better pad + Better multiplatform games - Likely to break - Only a DVD drive - Extra costs for everything (wireless, live, batteries for controllers) - Noisey - Many games ported to PC (so I will play them anyway on the PC) PS3 + GT5 (if it ever comes out - probably summer 2010) + Uncharted 1 & 2, and other exclusives not on the PC + Good build quality (unlikely to break) + Quiet + Wireless, Blu-Ray + Free Online service + More exclusives - Crap ergonomics on the controller - More expensive - PSN isn't as good as MS's LIVE - Multiplatform games are generally worse (slower frame rates etc) Do you agree / disagree? Which system would you buy? Thanks!
Get Both, alot of us regulars do have both. Personally i use my 360 more, but i use my PC more than the xbox. Sam
Both would be the best option but IMO unless your a big Halo/Gears/crackdown fan a majority of the best xbox 360 games are available on PC which you said you'd rather play them on. So in terms of console exclusives the PS3 probably has a more diverse and interesting line up for you than the xbox 360. However XBLA/Xbox live >>>> PSN Network. If you really wanted to you could mod a PS3 controller into a Xbox 360 controller case (it has been done!) I agree on the PS3 controller not being anywhere near as nice, the analogue stick should swap with Dpad, better shoulder triggers, more rounded edges etc.
These two points i have opinions on. 1. I seriously doubt that the most recent units have any issues any more. The platform has matured over the years and even my Pre-HDMI 3yr old system has never RROD. honestly i think this a moot point now. 2. Ported to PC but actually how many of them play or run anything like the console version? the only recent game ive heard was Batman. Every other game has had shoddy ports. And as for the whole PS3 Vs. 360 debate. Each has good and bad points but if your looking to play games, multiplayer and an online environment which is tuned to the gaming community. Then the answer is easy. Go for the 360.
what are you guys' reasons for the PSN being not very good? i never understand when anyone says that as all I do on my PS3 is online gaming and have no problems.
Xbox 360. I have one, and can say that the 40 quid a year for Live is well worth it, the games they have are pretty good in general, with some gems being overlooked. Pick up banjo kazooie:nuts and bolts. I did for 10 quid and its a very good game.
The chart lies. I also suggest getting both of the consoles if you can. I own a PS3 and it's absolutely fantastic for games like Killzone 2, MGS and the Uncharted series, which harness the power of the CELL and deliver some fantastic results. Plus the free PSN is great, and it doubles as a Blu-ray player. But the Xbox is definitely better for most multi-platform releases and online games such as Call of Duty, since CoD games seem to always be awfully configured for online on the PS3. Only problem is you do have to pay for it. If I had to pick between the two I'd go for a PS3, but I'm biased on that front since I already have one and love it. But as you said, many 360 games are also ported to the PC, and you won't get the sheer quality of the PS3 exclusives.
I'm gonna disagree with, + Better pad (xbox) vs - crap ergo (ps3) even though it's purely opinion, you need some specific examples. As owner of both the are ergonomics pretty even, but the ps3 edges the xbox due to the poor excuse it has for a d-pad, but to it's merit it's has weight to it unlike the ps3 which feels like your holding on to air.
TBH, I see the gaming side of the consoles as pretty much equal. Both have equally good exclusives, depending on what you like, and the multi-platform games are largely similar on both (you really have to analyse them in detail to find the differences, and for every one that's better on one console there's one that's the opposite). Where the consoles really differ is in everything other than gaming. Will you be connecting to the Internet wirelessly? Will you want to watch Blu-Rays on it? Will you be wanting to stream music and movies or store them on the internal HDD to use it as a media player? Is noise a big concern for you? These are all things that the PS3 is generally better at, but that you also have to pay more for. So, as good as your pros and cons list is, and assuming you can only afford one, I'd choose based on which exclusive games you are actually interested in playing (GT5 or Forza, Gears of War or MGS4, Halo or Uncharted, etc. etc.), and whether you are interested in the better all-round capabilities of the PS3. Oh, and are you looking at the PS3 fat or PS3 slim? Yeah, that's quite a personal thing which varies from person to person. I've been using the various incarnations of the PS controller since like 1996 or something, so I've naturally become very accustomed to using it, to the point where I just can't get to grips with using the Xbox controller even though it is a better fit in my hands.
Had both, PS3 (60gb) still works without giving me tinitus. 360 broke twice in 12 months. The original sixaxis controller was very light, but the dualshock 3 it now comes with has a reassuring weight to it. Plus, what is the point of a nice controller if the console is invariably broken or scratching your discs?
I put my answers next to your pros and cons. If you can afford and just love games like me, by both, then you can play all the great games. If you cant afford both, its up to you tdecide. I dont care about the machines, I love games, I dont care if the game is a PS3 or a 360 only game. I have the ability to play it and thats all I care about.
if you got a high-end pc the xbox is useless imo. i'll give you a few reasons to own a PS3 uncharted 1&2 infamous killzone2 mgs4 little big planet demon's souls heavy rain god of war 3 ratchet and clank games last guardian GT5 all amazing games which can be played only on PS3, so that is why if you got a high end PC already you should get a PS3 only for those games. Regarding multiplatforms ...the comparisons atm on which version has better graphics are clearly philosophical. Some find xbox version is best others PS3 version. Seriously, don't let this be something that will affect your choice, you will regret it afterwards. There are versions of games were xbox is better, but most *if not all* of these are mediocre titles which I personally would never own or play (e.g. GI Joe). I like playing games which are tailored for my console and my console only. Unless off course you are a big halo, gears of war, fable fan.
Thanks for the comments guys, seems like there is no easy answer. Will see what my wallet says at the end of the month....
PS3 for me. You can't go wrong with it. Has blu-ray to watch movies. You're not going to have to pay for PlayStation Network or online gaming, but all the additional expenses you'd incur with the 360. You can use you're PS3 for a good cause by joining Folding@Home. ^^,
