Been playing my console all weekend and all last night. Never gets hotter than 'warm to the touch' and the powerbrick is the same.

It's only locked up once, and that was when I tried to open the Live Guide blade whilst PGR3 was exiting from a Gotham TV replay back to the main menu... not exactly a clever thing to do on my part I admit.

Whilst I'm not pretending my problem free experience has been typical, I think that as with any new tech, the early weeks after launch will always be plagued by overblown media stories and unsubstantiated anedotes that give a false impression about said devices reliability.

It's no louder than my PC really. I think the only time it's noticable is when the DVD drive spins up to full speed and late at night when the volume is turned down.

1 in 33 is about normal. For anyone that doesn't believe me about consumer electronics failure rates I suggest you do some research on Gartner and Associates. They are a independent survey agency. Laptop manufactures have an anualized failure rate of 25 - 35% on there products. This number is consistent for most manufacturers because they are all built by a pool of about 5 Twainese OEM companies. DOA is an entirely different problem all together. DOA goes outside of the manufacturer's control process and usually is attributed to bad shipping and handling practices from manufaturer to distributor to dealer and then the customer.

in this sort of scenario i think of how all the thousands of people who are sitting playing and enjoying their new console have no time to go on the net and write glorious reviews about it, compared to the few disgruntled individuals who got a bad xbox that dont have anything to do but sit on the internet and whine, the numbers of complaints may increase at a certain rate but the number of happy consumers increases at a much higher rate.

basically wht im saying is theres probably ~0.5% dodgy xbox's out there, this is no big deal, its no different from other consumer electronics.
