    Hi,

I've got a 512mb XFX 4870 and was wondering what card you could compare it to now a days. I know it cant do DX11 but other than that?

Let me know what you think.

At a rough guess I would say a 768MB GTX 460, but bear in mind these are over priced these days anyway!

Were you looking for a decent upgrade suggestion?

Yeah, was thinking of upgrading, either buy new or look at ebay. Was thinking of a 6870.

    the 460 GTX smokes a HD4870 :p

a 6870 is a bit faster than a 460 GTX still so would make a good upgrade imo, keep a eye on ebay I have one in a 2nd machine I got for peanuts.

You can grab 6870's on eBay for around £100 if you're lucky. I recently managed to grab 2 off there to upgrade my (funnily enough) 4890's. Also managed to get the Asus Crosshair V mobo for £120 brand new.

You think it will play modern games at a decent level? I'm using a 22" 1680x1050 monitor.

Yes. Especially if your monitor is the above resolution. You can check how much faster it is on the Anandtech test bench

What games are you thinking of getting?

    Thanks for the link btw.

Maybe some BF3, some crysis 2 and I've always like supreme commander.

Those are pretty high end games. £75 is a bargain for that card though, and since you are only running 1680x1050 I should think you'll be ok.

If you plan on getting a new monitor anytime soon, you should maybe think about a 560ti or something. If you buy second hand, they can be had for about £100.
