It plugs into the mains... so as long as you have it plugged into the same extension as your computer there's no risk of your pooter being on when this isn't :)

    Rob.

p.s. if it bothers you Xice do sell low voltage versions which will turn on with your PC.

The low voltage version links to the PC's power, this doesn't - it just plugs into a normal socket.

Installation of the HS is pretty easy, Spike covered it in his review of the block (linked in the review) - overall installation was a piece of cake, just connecting a few tubes and pouring the water in...

I do like the look of that external enclosure, matches the xice blocks and coolermaster cases quite well.

its actually selling for about £175 /249 euros at xices website apparently because of your review ;)

so that makes it a much better deal imho, £220 was just a bit steep.

on the power side ive got a question or two too, so it powers directly from the mains? does it have a power switch too? or is it "always on" as long as its plugged in?

There's no switch, always on while it's plugged in (I think this is a good thing, if there were a switch I'm sure I'd forget to turn it on!).

Yep I saw that - talk about responding to feedback ;)

We have reduced our price to £189.99 due to the recent Xice Price cuts.

Do you know if Xice rate the passive unit to cope with the load of a GPU block as well? if so its a very nice solution for an elegant, silent setup.

I didn't, so I put your question to the MD of Xice, Jens Biermann, who said (I'm sure he won't mind me quoting him):

"...we do have many customers combining the EC600/H with our Xice xgk and/or xck. No problem. Personally, I'm using a P4, 3.2 Ghz., ATI 9800, Temps: between 42 and 54 degress celsius. The EC-passive coolers are capable for 3 units (at least) if not overclocked (or a little bit only).

    A second Demo-PC is running with AMD/Athlon 2800+, PowerSupply 420 watercooled. Around 48degrees.

We try a clear positioning of the product: just silent - clear design - no troubles! I believe heavy overclockers need a watercooling system (with a couple of fans) to kill the heat. The priority is not to make to pc as silent as possible."

Think that answers your question - maybe I'll give it a go too ;)

    Hey, thanks there.

I wasn't considering for myself (though I am looking at the blocks), but I thought it a wery good kit to recommend to anyone with a noise issue that didn't want to get too involved but wanted an elegant solution.

Think, as soon as my first full-time pay-packet comes in, I may have to exchange ye olde Aquarius II for one of these babies. The AqII is a nice bit of kit, but mine seems to have gotten quite noisy recently (think I got some dust in the system and it's choking the pump), and don't think it'd cope with adding a GFX, whereas this will, which is what I'm after. :)

Been looking at this a bit more and definately think I'm going to go for one of these. Funnily enough, the 600 version you've reviewed is cheaper on Xice's site, yet the 900 model is cheaper on water-cooling shop.

£219 (900) is pretty steep though, and could get myself a 'proper' watercooling kit for that. Doubt it'd be as quiet though. Add to the £219 another £26 for a GPU block, and another £26 for a chipset block and you're hitting nearly £300. Nice for pure silence (bar a quiet PSU) but pricey. What's nice about the 900 version though is the powering from a PSU, and the fact that my Antec PSU (Sonata case) has a molex on the outside, ready to plug and go. :D

Maybe it'll come down again by the time I could afford it in a couple of months though. Already bought some RS45s, 120GB HDD, and a 9800se this month. :eeek:

Thinking again. Screw it. I can get the 600 + gpu + nb for the same price as the 900 alone. Only difference; it doesn't glow, and it's on 24/7. Nevermind.
