I've noticed while i drive that if i pass under a bridge or whatever, my XM radio will cut out for a second... while it's not bad for just a second, sometimes in traffic, i get stuck under an underpass and the xm cuts out until i get out from under it. ok, well i just managed to trash my first XM antenna (bad routing lead to a stray foot snapping the line) so i'm gonna un-route that... but my idea is getting two new ones and trying to splice the wires together, having a reciever on the front top of the roof and rear top of the trunk. Not 100% sure if it will work as intended... what do y'all think?
Im not sure how the anntennea works, but to me it seems as if this would work.. the only thing is, is that the annteane wires are TINY... so it would be extremly hard to splice two wires together... now splicing two anteanes at the connector ends would be a lot easier...
if it will work depends on the length of the bridge. it the bridge is 6 meters it might work. but if the bridge is 100 meters those 3 metes between the antenna's wont make much difference
If you do this you might experience some noise when the reception is good (but not neccesarily when the reception is bad) because you could get sort of an eccho (??) effect. However this probably won't be hearable on an analog radio system it could wery well cause problems on a digital radio system. Another factor is that the signal comes from directly above, so it might have any effect at all. You also need to get the cable splice correct. (thinking of ipedance here) I don't think this will help though. I'm not sure how this system works, but i'll assume that there is some sort of buffer for recieved data. If any data gets corrupted the radio won't play that datapiece (playing corrupted data will only cause noise) Driving under a bridge no matter how short wil disturbe signals and curreupt the data you recieve. This is all in theory (and my theory here is pretty limited) ofcourse.. OT edit: Gideon: What are you doing _behind_ your screen? Most people sit in front of it, don't they? (atleast those who want to see the picture it's showing) (refering to the "location" post under your nick.) <----
