It's done from BIOS/DOS/Whatever, not Windows

perhaps try it with a different stick of ram, or maybe it's an incompatability with the motherboard and something else, or maybe you should try to install linux or win2k and see if they go sucessfully.

    Just my 2 cents

Do something about the size of your sig please.

It reboots, then take the CD out of the drive and it should go into windows.

Ive found that xp has been picky with certain drives in the past, even brand new dvd drives and such, but swapping it solves it. Also try cleaning the cd. Its amazing what problems it can cause just because of some dirt!!

i too have had some weird problems installing xp in the past. in one case, it was a bad stick of memory, the other, it was a bad cd drive. is the cd scratched too much?

The CD is in perfect condition.
It may be the drive, I'm using a old SONY 48X CD while I'm waiting for my drives, and in my old main rig (still main rig untill I get my new rig working :p ) I have a Sony 52X cd-rom and I had the same problems, switched it for a Pioneer 16X SLOT and it worked....will try with the new HDD and drives.

Oh god, thats the same problem that happens when someone tries to install Fedora Core 2 Test 2 or Test 3. Fedora writes some screwy partition geometry, and makes windows all foobared. I just learned that trick a few days ago, after being (in linux happily), with no windows, and no counter-strike or unreal :wallbash:

<ontopic>If it works in one cd drive and not the other im thinking its prob your disc & cd combo. Is it a copy? If it is, can your drives read cd-r(w)'s?

or it could be sony's way of revolting against windows :D

i had this problem, went into bios and set the ram timings ridicoulously slow.
cas 3, 8-8-3 i think .. .and it installed just fine.

and this was with cas2 corsair, not the cheap stuff ... and i also had to set the ide delay to 3 sec ...

basically just set the bios to safe defaults, then adjust for your processor speed.
