hey, i am new on this site, i am posting this thread as i am having quite a serious problem concerning XP, well i think it is, whats happening is that when i try to go on things, such as a computer game, it either wont go on it, or will go in and then come out not long after going in, and come up with a message saying that, 'The virtual memory is too low' and goes onto say something about making space, but i have already deleted quite a large number of files, and the problem persists, and i have no idea of what is going wrong and i dont know what to do, and i am hoping that anyone who reads this will know. If anyone can help me with this problem please contact me via e-mail (smirkazor@hotmail.com), or reply here.

    thanks

Have you checked the virtual memory settings? Also do you have any apps running in the background?

How much system RAM do you have?

    thnks for the quick reply

I dont know where these setting for virtual memory are
I only have a few apps running in the background and
I have 512 MB of RAM

Also, this is the first time that something has gone wrong that is this serious, it had started just last monday and its been getting worse, until now. and my comp has been updated quite recently. so that should be the trouble having to upgrade.

Some specs would be nice. But failing that: cram as much RAM as you can in there, check the virtual memory settings, and upgrade your video drivers.

Virtual memory settings in XP Pro:

    Right click My Computer
    Select Properties
    Select Advanced
    Select Performance Settings
    Select Advanced
And your Virtual Memory settings are down the bottom.

Check that the right amount of RAM shows up on POST. Then do a virus scan. If that fails, windows just loooovvveeessss being formatted :D

I know it may seem a little silly, but..Your total size for the paging file is 1536Mb, but do you have that much space on your drive?

You could always turn off the pagefile, set the min & max to 0

when i moved to xp, i had a program that used some weird copy protection that took control of the floppy drive or something, XP didn't like this and as such the virtual memory settings were always messed up. Have a look in the device manager and make sure there are no strange hardware devices with yellow ! marks next to them.

    Hey gojulas2k  ,
Make sure you have enough space on your hardrive,
The open up task manager by right click the task bar and clicking task manager.
Then click Performance tab and check how much memory Windows and other applications are using.

I had a DVD application on a computer with 128mb ram. The paging size was 756mb and after a couple of minutes I get that same error too.
So make sure to check how much ram is being used
