Has anyone used AutoPatcher XP, or anything similar, to download all the current XP updates released since SP2? I was recently put in charge of a 60 computer network that does not connect to the Internet. I have SP2 on CD, and am going around installing it on all the workstations. I am looking for a quick and easy way to install all the other updates that have been released since. Microsoft has each of the updates available for download separately, but I'm looking for a way to install them all at once. Any ideas? Thanks.

None of them connect to the internet?

Do you have a server? You could use Windows Server Update Service (WSUS)
There's site http://www.wsus.info/news.php that has some good info. There's some program a guy has there in his sig that will allow you to download offsite and then extract to the server directory for updating.

There's other pay for software that will allow you do to updates too... but expensive.

Are all computers setup with the proper admin logins, ports open, etc?

    What might work...
Get psexec from sysinternals that allows installation over network via your admin account.
Get autopatcher on a shared folder or put on each pc via C$(root) or admin$(c:\windows)
Use this page to run autopatcher via commandline

They're networked to the server. The server itself doesn't connect to the Internet because of the sensitivity of the data our firm works on (government-type junk). That's why I can't use the Windows Server Update Service. All of the updates have to be done offline. We're tying our hands behind our backs, I know. But I'd be in prison if we didn't!

I'll read up on all that. Have you ever used AutoPatcher? I downloaded it, but I was looking for feedback from bit-techers before I tried it. I don't want to pooch anything else on my fragile and tempermental network. Thanks for your help!

Yeah we use it all the time at work because we are in a similar situation. All our pc's arent allowed outside the proxy/firewall to get updates... I suggest the lite version for you environment. It has only the fixes and patches. The full has like java install, etc...

I installed it and it has all of the current month's updates in one place. That is handy, but I was looking for all current updates since SP2 came out. Is this wishful thinking, or is there something I'm missing that would let me do this? Thanks again.

Okay, I found another version of it that includes everything throught December 2005. I ran that and then ran the January 2006 update version. However, when I click the "Show Updates" checkbox in Add/Remove Programs, none of the updates show. I also ran the Belarc Security Advisor program, and it showed that the computer was missing 30 critical updates. The log file from when I ran AutoPatcher shows that it installed a bunch of updates, but they all appear to have been placed in the C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher folder. What did I screw up this time? Thanks.

It will only install the updates that are pertinent to that install...

Also check out their forum they have many very intelligent and useful members there for more information than I could even make up! heh...

That's what I'm saying - I needed a whole bunch of updates, so I ran the program. It said it was installing the updates. It even gave me a log file at the end stating exactly what it had done. I rebooted and then found that I still needed the exact same number of updates.

Well, thanks for your help through all this. Every headache I fix is another step closer to a smoother-running network and a less stressful job.
