ok. so my computer randomly decided to screw up. i use it to play quake\ff11 and use these and caraudio.com forums. thats it. i use mozilla firefox.

i constantly scan with adaware, and i used trend micro's online virus scan. and came up with nothing.

    this is exactally what happens.

i boot. i login to XP, ~15 seconds later, computer restarts and does it again. so, i procced to safemode. and everything works fine and dandy. so i suppose it has to be a software problem? well then why on earth did this happen randomly? ok. so i switch out my videocard with a radeon 9600. same thing. i uninstall the geforce2 drivers. install radeon drivers. same thing. uuuh. whats going on?

(reason i did this is because the video started to have visable refresh lines and i thought my geforce2 ultra was at the end of its days)

i tried both ram in seperate slots 1 at a time. and same thing. i reset the bois. same thing.

i cant not, for the life of me, figure out what this is or why it happened.

so i proceed to boot from the winxp disk. i do chkdsk -r, and it comes up with no errors. i proceed to do a windows repair, and it will restart the installation when it finises "installing components" (2nd to last dot on the left there) and restart at 39 minutes every time.

ok, so then i do a 'replace windows' i had it delete the old windows, and reinstall it. i thought it might be a corrupted file or somthing screwy.

i still get the SAME reboot problem. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

any help? i searched for hours online trying to find a solution. no go.

    system specs;

    windowsXP SP1
    athalonxp 2100 (1.67ghz)
    epox 8k7a-raid
    crucial ddr pc2100 (256x2)
    radeon 9500 \ radeon 9600 \ geforce2 ultra64 \ geforce 4 mx440 PCI
    maxtor 250gb 7200rpm
antec generic PSU (came with case)
swiftec MCX 462 HSF (no overheating problem- heat is set to reboot at 60c and im getting 40c at most)

like i said, im stumped. :waah:

When it restarts does the PC just power down or do you get the windows shutdown dialogue? To me, the latter would suggest a software problem and the former hardware. Is it possible your PSU is borked? If its not working properly it might restart when you put any strain on it?

it just reboots, no logos, no powerdown, i dont have to boot it up... just restarts itself.

i wish i had another PSU to test with =\

    sigh.

I had that same problem when I was overclocking my p4 too much. It would just randomly shut down with no warning. It ended up being the RAM that was causing the issue...

If you just reinstalled windows over the existing install, it's still the virus..
