what i basically mean to get is the XP Standard theme, but not in blue, silver or olive green but in black/dark grey , i don't want to install any additional programs either ... just done a clean install and trying to keep it clean as long as possible

ive looked through deviantart.com and fund many nice and shiney stuff, but all i want is a calm black version of the toolbars ...

all windows itself does is send you through to a site to order windoze "plus!"
well .. had that for win 95 and that was a waste of money ...

can anyone give a hint/link for this problem ?

    tnx

well, the only good way is to put in a modified uxtheme.dll (you have to do it in safe mod/another windows install)

you could of course slipstream the modified one into a cd, which would give you the modified one in a fresh install :)

tnx for the reply... i got myself a pre SP1 copy of uxtheme.dll and replaced it through the recovery console ... resulting in the inability to use both the standard toolbar skins and the one i downloaded so i put my old one back for now ...
anything else i can try ?

i used this one btw afaik it misses the "*.theme" file XP needs ...
i have alteady tried to edit the existing one(luna) so it refers to the folder i use for this one ... resulted in no toolbars at all .

I patched uxtheme.dll in normal windows, using a program called <Dammit, I just deleted it, can't remember the name>. Oh well. But for the record, it is do-able.

psycho, if you read the post, you would realize that he doesnt want any programs running in the background. Although i do agree that style xp rocks, its still not what he is looking for.
