    with most themes you can just use the built in theme manager in XP to use them

    and then you dont have any other random software running in the background chewing up resourses

    You might want to check out the uxtheme.dll patch info & free themes here.

    i've found that running windowblinds 4.1 or higher uses less resources than the stock winXP theme itself ...

    i know people are always convinced that more programs = more resources, but WB uses the windows skinning API's more efficently than explorer.exe does. never in my life have i had problems from windowblinds eating resources - just 1 or 2 bad skins for it back in the days (2.x days)

    it's not free, but i dont have to hack my kernel or patch dll's to do it. windows update always works with it.

    I use StyleXP and have had no problems - also lets you change boot and login screens as well as other things. Check it out.

    WindowsBlinds and StyleXP are part of the ObjectDesktop package. I have it including DesktopX, BootSkin, Cursor XP and more and love it. The software itself does not bloat but poorly made skins that cause it. WindowsBlinds 4.4 (I think that’s what mine is) with most skins runs almost as fast as WindowsXP in classic mode.

    Mr Froggy your mistaken about StyleXP being part of ObjectDesktop. ObjectDesktop is a Stardock Corp product including:

    * WindowBlinds (for changing your Windows GUI)
    * DesktopX (for enhancing your Windows desktop with widgets and themes)
    * IconPackager (for changing all your Windows icons)
    * WindowFX (for adding shadows, animations and other effects to your windows).
    * IconX (for adding shadows and effects to your icons).
    * and much more!

    StyleXP is a program from TGT Soft that would be a direct competitor with WindowBlinds as they offer the same functionality......different company entirely.

    just thought i'd have a little look at available themes so i checked the 2 big ones

    stylexp = themexp.org - 1821

    windowblinds = wincustomize.com - 3189

    hrmm ..... either it's easier to make skins for WB, or there's more people using it, or it's just random numbers and i'm missing something.

    i think the best part of object desktop it that it includes skinstudio and iconedit.
