Windows XP Themes

    How do u get the themes to work i downloaded installed etc and only the icons are working not the start bar or anything i check the themes folder and its in there but not onthe drop down for XP styles..

    am i missing somthing

    Have run the UXTheme patcher? If not then you will need to, and if you already have, try finding the msstyles file and just double click. Sometimes they dont seem to appear in the dropdown in display properties.

    nope think i've made it worse lol XP themes dotn exsist anymore loll.. erm it says i need SP1 CD in the drive but i downloaded it not on disk so how do i get round that .. i dont know were the file for it is now either. but its installed.

    With the alternative uxtheme.dll you need the right version for your XP - plain vanilla, SP1 or SP2 - though the patcher linked should pick that up automatically and change the backup copies too.

    Then styles and themes should be in the correct folder to be listed, usually as a .theme file in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes with a theme_name subfolder containing the .msstyles file and other stuff.

    i got it working now i tryed some diffrent programe StylesXp or somit

    Yeah... StyleXP is what I use... but Stardock offer a FREE Theme Manager as a [basic] alternative (the Plus version offers more, but isn't free, obviously) :thumb:
