After a botched install of Ubuntu on my computer, I can now longer boot into XP. I get the 'unmountable boot volume' error.
It appears that my XP partition is intact, as I can access it using the Ubuntu livecd, and everything seems fine. I just think the boot.ini is messed up.
I tried fixing it using the recovery console from my XP cd, but it hangs on "examining disk...on viasraid". (yes I have installed the SATA drivers)

I think that all I have to do is edit my boot.ini so that windows can 'find itself' again, but I can't do this if I can't access the recovery console.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Can't edit it, because it's an NTFS partition.
I think I'm going to have to format :(

When you say "hangs", how long did you leave it for?

5-10 Minutes maybe? I'll try leaving it for longer later.

Right, fixboot and fixmbr won't work. I think it's screwed :(

Edit: yeah, recovery console is showing it to be a fat16 volume. Yet its a 200gb partition
