Hi guys, I have a AMD Anthlon XP1800 T-bird (im not sure on this how do i find out for sure?) i have a Ks75a ECS Mobo 256DDr Ram i canot change ANYTHING to do with the cpu in the BIOS oh i can only change the mhz thing it gose 100/100mhz or 133/133 mhz if i set it to 100/100Mhz the BIOS reports its a lower speed the 1.53Ghz if set tp 133/133Mhz it reports its a xp1800 (wicj it is lol) so how to i overclock this cpu thank you! ddr is pc2700 i think!
To find out for sure if it is a T-bred there are 2 ways that I know of: 1. Pull off the heatsink and look at the stepping information. Then go to the Steppings post of the Hardware FAQ Thread and look it up. 2. Download CPU-Z. When you run it, it'll tell you what type of AMD you have. There is a link for it in the Hardware FAQ Thread also. As far as that motherboard goes, you'll really need to get a hacked version of the BIOS that will open up the other options for over-clocking. There is some good information on things you can try in this thread: click meh There's even an overclocking guide for that board linked there. If the cpu is relatively old, chances are it's a Palomino core. But it's worth finding out. Good luck!
yea its a Palomino core is that good or not? i have overclocked cpu now :d :d its temps are 52 idle :s anyway i have plans to cool it down. thanks your soo helpfull!
Youre going to have problems overclocking a palamino core. They are hot little sods that really do not like being clocked at all. Also you probably would not notice much difference in performance from teh other 2 CPUs you mention. You dont say what speed RAM you are using either or even what brand but i expect it to be generic as the motherboard, being an ECS, is a budget brand. If you are serious about overclocking then you need to seriously think about a new CPU, mobo and RAM im afraid. It goes without saying that those 3 componants are the main considerations when it comes to overclocking.
Okay well can you tell me wich combo to get as i mean wich type on Mobo. CPu, and what size Ram i should look at getting?
well i want a fast setup! one that can be overclocked good. i have about £130 to spend on it. cheers!
Well you certainly dont have enopugh for a P4 system so its the AMD route, and even then you dont really have enough. Maybe an Abit NF7-S with a duron applebred? But that wont leave much for RAM and its important to get good quality ram. What do you currently have?
Your gunna need a bit more dosh really... Check out some of the online stores [www.cpucity.co.uk , www.overclockers.co.uk , www.ebuyer.co.uk ] for decent deals on cpus, mobos and ram... You can get a barton 2500XP for around £65, an Abit Nf7s rev2 for roughly the same and then you would need to save a bit more for new ram but you could probably make do with the pc2700 you have now untill you can afford to replace it... Hope that helps and isn't completely out of date and pointless [edit] Thought this was an old thread... It's December now??? 69 Dude!!
try to find either a 1700+ or an 1800+ with Jiuhb DLT3C steppings. these chips run at a stock voltage of 1.5v they are known to hit 2.3-2.5 on air, 2.4-2.8 on water or phase change. for a motherboard get either an ABIT NF7-S revision 2 or an Epox 8rda+ these are probably the best overclocking boards. as for memory, try to find something with winbond BH-5 chips as they overclock like nothing else. the chips are good i know as im running an 1800+ at 2.43 on an NF7-S rev. 2.0 the ram is the only thing i dont have, im using crappy winbond CH-5 chips .
get a duron applebred 1600, they clock like bitches, and for the price, you cannae grumble That, along with an NF7 and you'll be laughing
I've seen them hit 2.5 on air, but I'm not saying that all Applebreds will hit that, but if you get a good one, it's deffo possible!
Athlon XP1800 T-bird? There's actually no such thing. If you mean the XP1800 Thoroughbred then these can be clocked quite high if you unlock the L1 bridges. There should be no laser locks if it is a thoroughbred. There will be info of the CPU telling you what it is, and since the BIOS will mis-report it if the clock speed is wrong then you can't tell what it is.
the 1800 t/breds kick ass The one (see sig) will do 2.4 ghz on 1.7v in this mobo but run outta FSB/multi.. so in a decent mobo should do over 2.5 quite easily... (1700 did 2gig on 1.6, but does 2.2 on 1.6 in an NF7-s) so what could be gotten outta the 1800 in the same board?
